CityWatch Editor POMONA - Less than two months after a man was gunned down, a suspect was identified and taken into custody, police said. Frank Limon, 46, was officially charged with one count of murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle, according to the Pomona Police Department. Limon was additionally charged with special allegations, including personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, being a felon in possession of a firearm, enhancements under the California Three Strikes Law and gang enhancements. Daniel Jimenez, a 29-year-old Pomona man, was found suffering from gunshot wounds near North Garey Avenue and West Monterey Avenue March 23. He died at a hospital. Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit detectives worked to identify Limon who was found May 10 in Pomona and taken in the custody. Limon is being held without bail in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. Proceedings were held May 13 and 14. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police announced the arrest of a suspect responsible for the death of a man he was fighting with March 26. The suspect was arrested April 26 and officially charged with one count of murder by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office three days later. Oliver Jacobs, Jr., a 41-year-old Pomona man, got into a fight with a second man in the area of West Holt Ave. and Short Street. First responders originally responded to the location for a requested assault victim needing CPR. “During the fight, the victim fell to the ground and was rendered unconscious. The suspect walked away from the location,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. The victim was hospitalized, where staff notified law enforcement that he was on life-support and not expected to survive, according to the Pomona Police Department. Ricardo Sanchez Delgado, 41, died April 4 from blunt force trauma to the head, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Jacobs was arraigned April 29. CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Investigators are still piecing together the details of a shooting that left a man dead early Friday morning. The fatal shooting took place at the Pala Motel, 987 E. Holt Ave. First responders were sent to the motel around 4:38 a.m. and located a gunshot victim. Despite efforts to save him, he died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Maximo Sanchez. He died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The pedestrian died at the scene of the crash in the area of Philadelphia Street and Palomares Street despite the efforts of first responders, who were to the scene at 3:11 a.m. April 6, according to the Pomona Police Department. The driver fled the scene. It is unclear if investigators have identified a vehicle. A description was not provided. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Two big rigs collided, killing at least one person and triggering an Sig Alert Thursday. The transition road from the westbound I-10 freeway to the northbound 57 freeway is closed for at least two hours, according to the California Highway Patrol. A red big rig and white big rig collided around 8:42 a.m. in the trans road No. 2 lane. Early reports indicated a body was found under one of the big rigs. CityWatch Editor POMONA - One person has died and many others are injured in a major three-vehicle collision on the westbound 60 freeway in Pomona Saturday. The collision occurred in the HOV lane of the westbound 60 freeway just east of the 71 interchange. The crash and first responders are occupying the HOV and No. 1 and 2 lanes of traffic, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The first report of a wrong way driver was received at 11 p.m. March 22. Multiple eyewitnesses reported seeing a vehicle traveling an opposing lanes. At least one person described the vehicle as a dark-colored sedan, while another described it as a white Honda Accord. The correct description of the vehicle is not immediately known. Firefighters arriving on scene described two vehicles while involved with fire. One person was trapped inside one of the vehicles, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. The publicly unidentified woman was found suffering major injuries at Towne Avenue and Towne Park Circle just after 10 p.m. She died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. Despite efforts by first responders to save the woman, she died. The driver that struck the woman remained at the scene. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man died at a hospital after being shot at a shopping center Tuesday night. The shooting occurred in a shopping center in the 1600 block of Indian Hill Boulevard around 7:40 p.m. Video recording from a bystander showed Firefighters feverishly providing CPR on the man as he lay lifeless on the asphalt parking lot of the shopping center. “Homicide Investigators from the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and began an extensive investigation. The motive for the crime is not yet known,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Detectives are figuring out why human remains ended up inside a storm drain. Authorities were notified of the remains, which were found in a storm drain near East End Avenue and East Third Street around 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 3. It is not publicly clear in what state of decay the remains were found in. The Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit is handling the investigation. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will determine the identity and potentially the cause of death. The Pomona Police Department declined to provide any more details. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man died after his vehicle slammed into a tree Tuesday. The collision occurred just before 10 a.m. at North White Avenue and Berkeley Avenue February 11th. First responders attempted to save the driver, but he died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Pomona Police Department has closed White Avenue in both directions between McKinley Avenue and Arrow Highway due to the crash. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
