The checkpoint, to be held at an undisclosed location, is scheduled to last from 9 p.m. Friday, to 3 a.m. Saturday, October 30. The saturation patrols are scheduled to last from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, according to the Pomona Police Department. “DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols are done in locations with a higher frequency of DUI-related collisions and arrests. During the checkpoint, officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, with officers checking drivers for proper licensing,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Citing data from 2017, police investigated 127 DUI collision in Pomona, resulting in 49 injuries and one death. The costs incurred through a DUI arrest and subsequent court appearances, fines, fees, DUI classes and license suspension can top $13,500, according to the Pomona Police Department. Beginning Tuesday, April 20 at 7 p.m., additional Pomona officers will patrol city streets in search of drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The checkpoint was held at Garey Avenue and Monterey Avenue from 9 p.m.to 3 a.m. The citywide patrols were held from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. In addition to the three suspected DUI arrests, 36 drivers were arrested or cited for unlicensed driving, or driving on a suspended or revoked license. 17 vehicles were towed, the Pomona Police Department said.

The checkpoint operated at Lexington Avenue and Garey Avenue from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. March 15 also yielded 36 citations/arrests for driving on a suspended or revoked license. 16 vehicles were also towed, Pomona Police said. DUI checkpoint locations are based on collision statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests.

The patrols were conducted from 7 p.m. December 31 to 3 a.m. January 1. The suspect arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence was additionally booked on suspicion of grand theft auto and resisting arrest, Pomona Police said. In addition to the above arrests, officers conducted 25 enforcement stops, issued 14 citations and cited/arrested two drivers who had suspended or revoked licenses, Pomona Police said. |
