The man was hit at the crossing at S. San Antonio Ave. and E. First St. January 29 around 3:45 p.m., according to Robynn Tysver, Spokeswoman for Union Pacific. Firefighters were dispatched 3:45 p.m. They were on scene within three minutes and cleared at 4:13 p.m., according to Christian Reynoso of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The victim is identified as 64-year-old Ronnie Swafford, a Black man. He died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. The death was ruled accidental. Swafford has no city of residence listed, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Union Pacific Police investigated the incident. The investigation is taking place at East First Street and Electra Street. The pedestrian died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. An Amtrak train is stopped on the tracks. Fright service and Metrolink service appear to be moving still, albeit slowly in the area. The pedestrian was struck and killed around 1 a.m. in the area of West First Street and South Hamilton Boulevard, according to Sgt. Gibson of the Pomona Police Department. “I don’t know if they were crossing, trying to beat the train, but they came in contact with the train,” Gibson told SGV CityWatch. Gibson did not know the gender or age of the pedestrian killed. At 2:17 a.m., the Pomona Police Department sent out an email alert asking drivers to avoid the railroad crossings along West First Street from Hamilton to North San Antonio Avenue. At 4:30 a.m. the Pomona Police Department announced that traffic was no longer on detour. The collision was reported to Pomona Police around 2:36 p.m. Thursday at East First Street and San Lorenzo Street, which is near East End Avenue. Firefighters and officers located the male victim dead on arrival, according to the Pomona Police Department. The events leading up to the fatal crash have yet to be made public. |
