The suspect approached a woman Tuesday, January 16, in the area of Dudley Street and Arroyo Avenue around 9:22 p.m. He inquired about dating her, but she rejected his advances, according to the Pomona Police Department. “When she rejected his advances, he escalated the situation by brandishing a knife and threatening her,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Police were called and they searched the area, but the suspect was already gone. Believing the suspect would return, officers stayed in the area and luckily enough, the suspect was found. “Upon attempting to approach him, the man engaged in a physical altercation with officers and resisted arrest. Despite his resistance, officers successfully apprehended him,” according to the Pomona Police Department. The suspect was booked on suspicion of brandishing a weapon, making criminal threats, battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and stalking. Salome Rodriguez, 44, and Jocelyn Delacruz, 24, were taken into custody near South Hamilton Boulevard and West Eighth Street by the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit which was conducting surveillance on the pair, according to the Pomona Police Department. A victim was wounded by gunfire just before 3 p.m. at a liquor store in the 1100 block of West Mission Boulevard. The Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Unit were able to quickly identify Rodriguez and Delacruz as suspects with the help of video surveillance. The pair were found walking near South Hamilton Boulevard and West Eighth Street when undercover officers found them and took them into custody. The victim was treated at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Both suspects, who reside in Pomona, were charged with one count each of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The pair already had a scheduled court appearance March 17 and are scheduled again in court April 27 in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. Rodriguez is being held in lieu of more than $3.2 million bail in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. Delacruz is being held without bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of North Reservoir Street around 4:15 a.m. March 20 by a woman who concerned for a friend’s wellbeing. One woman was able to escape through a window from the home and told police of her ordeal and that another woman had yet to be freed, according to the Pomona Police Department. Authorities setup a perimeter and evacuated nearby residents. It took four hours of talks with crisis negotiators, with family of the suspect assisting, until 29-year-old Ricardo Alvarado surrendered, according to the Pomona Police Department. No one was injured. Firearms were seized from the residence. Alvarado, a Pomona man, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment with violence, kidnapping and removing, damaging or destroying a wireless communication device to prevent someone from using it to seek help. Johnny Richardson, a 19-year-old Pomona resident, was arrested after officers discovered the weapon and learned of his identity. Richardson was stopped around 6:18 p.m. in the area of Holt Avenue and Clark Avenue February 11. Richardson was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, being in possession of an unregistered firearm and being a criminal street gang member carrying a loaded firearm. Richardson posted $35,000 bond and was released Monday, February 13 at 7:22 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. Marquise McFadden, 29, was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with one count of forced oral copulation by force or violence. The girl was waiting at a bus stop near North White Avenue and Texas Avenue when a suspect drove up, according to the Pomona Police Department. “The suspect offered the victim a ride to school. The victim accepted and got into the car with the suspect. While driving, the suspect produced a firearm and threatened the victim, then sexually assaulted her. The victim was able to get away from the suspect and run to nearby community members who contacted the police,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. One day later, McFadden was identified as a suspect and a search was initiated. McFadden was seen driving the suspect vehicle September 29. Members of the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit stopped McFadden and found a firearm in his possession, according to the Pomona Police Department. McFadden posted $150,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court November 3, according to Los Angeles County booking records. A hiker saw the unnamed suspect carrying a rifle with a scope near the Eagle Scout Trail by Mission Boulevard and Appian Way. Arriving officers saw the man with the weapon and called for the Pomona Police SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Team, according to the Pomona Police Department. The incident was reported around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24. The suspect allegedly pointed the rifle at officers. Officers shut down Mission Boulevard between Temple Avenue and Human Way. They also placed additional officers in surrounding neighborhoods as a safety measure, according to the Pomona Police Department. “WAT/CNT arrived on scene and took over the incident. The man walked closer to Officers and dropped the rifle, but he continued to remain uncooperative with Officers. The man proceeded to walk back up the trail and was pursued by SWAT/CNT in the Bearcat,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. The suspect came back down the hillside around 10:51 a.m. and was apprehended. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – Pomona Police and the California Highway Patrol got the drop on a sideshow event that ended with dozens of arrests, vehicle impounds and a driver allegedly ramming a CHP patrol vehicle. The sideshow event took place along Pomona Boulevard and the 71 freeway September 4. The CHP was asked to assist around 11:30 p.m. and as officers arrived, found a chaotic scene. “As CHP officers arrived on scene, they observed a large group of vehicles engaged in a sideshow and a large plume of tire smoke caused by numerous burnouts. The officers moved into position to prevent the vehicles and spectators from leaving. While attempting to flee, one of the participants intentionally rammed a CHP patrol vehicle,” according to the CHP in a written statement. No one was injured in the crash and both vehicles sustained minor damage. Officers made 27 arrests and suspects were booked on a variety of alleged crimes, including exhibition to vandalism. Two felony arrests were made for assault on a peace officer, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs. The majority of the arrests were for spectating and/or participating in an illegal street takeover. Officers impounded 19 vehicles, according to the CHP. The CHP utilizes a Street Racing Task Force to combat such takeover events. The task force is partially funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. Jose Luis Hernandez, 42, allegedly refused to comply with the commands of officers who responded to Hamilton Boulevard and Second Street to calls of gunfire. After officers detained two men matching suspect descriptions, Hernandez became uncooperative. “The suspect armed himself with a pocket knife and threw it at a group of Officers, striking one of our Officers. Officers made multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation but were unsuccessful. The suspect was struck with bean bag rounds and taken into custody,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Multiple shell casings were located along with four firearms, according to the Pomona Police Department. Hernandez is being held in lieu of $950,000 bail. Ricky Washington, 33, and Tychanique Tyera Bluitt, 30, were both arrested during a traffic stop at Parcels Street and Monterey Avenue just before 1 a.m. June 29. Officers stopped Washington after he allegedly failed to make complete stops at two stop signs. Both he and Bluitt complied with police and exited the vehicle after officers discovered Washington was driving with a suspended license. The weapons were found during a search. “Officers found that there were two young children in the vehicle as well. Based on Washington’s driver’s license status, Officers searched the vehicle and found two loaded, unregistered firearms at the feat of the two infant children. Washington was found to be a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Washington, a Lancaster resident, and Bluitt, a Victorville resident, were arrested. Amongst the charges include possession of a loaded/unregistered firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a large-capacity magazine, concealing a firearm within a vehicle and child endangerment. |
