The discovery was made at 1:13 a.m. along the northbound 605 freeway. The victim was found with signs of trauma to his body. The cause of death is not known at this time according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Sylmar Recreation Center: 13109 Borden Ave. Westwood Recreation Center, 1350 Sepulveda Blvd. REGION – Communities affected by the Creek Fire still have time to evacuate before mandatory orders will be given to leave at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Crescenta Valley deputies and deputies from surrounding stations, even as far as Industry, went door to door, notifying residents that evacuation orders will be mandatory tonight. The areas affected by the evacuations are Lopez Canyon, Little Tujunga Canyon and Kagel Canyon. Notices were given last night urging residents to leave before the rain falls, according to Lt. Mark Slater of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. Sylmar High School, 13050 Borden Avenue, in Sylmar will be the designated evacuation center. Horses and other large animals can be taken to Hansen Dam Recreation Center, 11798 Foothill Blvd., Slater said. A powerful storm is expected to bear down on the area starting Wednesday night. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for recent burn areas. Moderate to heavy rain is expected to hit the area by late Thursday or early Friday, but the most widespread rains look to be focused along a cold front pushing through the region tonight, the National Weather Service said. Rainfall rates are expected to range from two to five inches across coastal and valley areas, with five to 10 inches across the foothills and coastal slopes, the NWS said. Rain is expected to fall up to .6 to .75 inches per hour or higher Thursday. The storm is expected to last until Friday. Officers responded at 1:15 a.m. to a call of a female down in the 13500 block of Rosecrans Avenue and found the woman face down in a parking lot. Santa Fe Springs Firefighters confirmed the officers’ initial report that the woman was dead at the scene, Whittier Police said. The woman’s identity and cause of death are unknown at this time, Whittier Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor REGION – La Habra Police are investigating an incident February 9 in which a man tried to lure a girl twice, police said.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. in the area of Idaho Street and Whittier Boulevard. The man drove up to the girl in a lifted dark grey Ford truck and tried to get her inside, but she refused. The suspect fled the area and returned about an hour later, this time in a faded Honda Civic and tried to lure her in again, La Habra Police said. The suspect is a Hispanic man, approximately 30 years old, has short black hair – similar to a buzz cut. He wore a grey/blue jacket and white tank top. He had visible tattoos on his right arm. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor REGION - Two Glendale carjacking suspects fled a black Chrysler 300 in Hesperia after leading CHP officers on a pursuit Monday night.
Authorities are searching for the suspects who fled the car on foot in Hesperia around 8:40 p.m., according CHP radio traffic. The two men carjacked their victim in the area of Verdugo Road and Broadview Drive. CHP officers from the Altadena office located the carjacked Chrysler at 8:02 p.m. east on the 210 freeway at Lincoln Avenue, according to Officer Alex Rubio of the California Highway Patrol. The driver fled CHP Altadena and Baldwin Park officers at high-speed, sometimes in excess of 100 miles per hour. It is unclear if the fleeing suspects have been apprehended. The suspects allegedly hit the driver of a grey Dodge Ram 2500 during the pursuit, with the collision occurring at the east 210 freeway and the 605 interchange. No one was injured. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS - At least two people were injured in a crash on San Gabriel Canyon Road near the Off-Highway Vehicle area.
The two vehicles collided on San Gabriel Canyon Road two miles south of East Fork Road. No one was trapped in the vehicles, which sustained major front-end damage, according to Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol. The collision was dispatched just after Noon. Sims did not have the level of injuries and how many patients were injured,. but the U.S. Forest Service initially stated a 15-year-old female and 18-year-old male suffering abdominal pain. A 54-year-old apparently suffered no injuries. A Sheriff’s rescue helicopter transported at least one patient to an area hospital. Jesse Alvarez, a 21-year-old Whittier man, was taken into custody March 11 after several tips from the public, aided by a surveillance photo, helped identify him, Whittier Police said. Alvarez is accused of robbing a Shoe City, 12560 Whittier Blvd. Armed with a black handgun and wearing a ski mask, Alvarez allegedly stole shoes from the business. Alvarez is also accused of committing domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon, days after the Shoe City robbery, Whittier Police said. The case against Alvarez was officially filed with Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which includes two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of domestic violence and one count of robbery. Alvarez’ bail is currently set at $1.3 million. Alvarez is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court March 20. Law enforcement agencies across the San Gabriel Valley will be out in force, issuing DUI saturation patrols for the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. POMONA: The Pomona Police DUI Enforcement Team will deploy from Friday, March 16 at 5 p.m. to Saturday, March 17 at 3 a.m. Officers will focus on areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and arrests. Police will also conduct a Know Your Limit operation on both days in Downtown Pomona and other areas of town from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. GLENDORA: DUI saturation patrols will take place Saturday, March 17. Officers will focus their patrols on drivers who exhibit alcohol and/or drug impairment. PASADENA: Pasadena officers will also conduct DUI saturation patrols from 6 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday. MONTEBELLO: Additional officers will be deployed from 7 p.m., March 16 to 3 a.m., March 17. In addition to these patrols, all other police, Sheriff’s stations and the California Highway Patrol will be on heightened alert, looking for DUI drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 252 people lost their lives in drunk driving-related crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period from 2011-2015. More than a fourth of them were killed in drunk driving crashes that occurred in the early morning, post-party hours (midnight to 5:59 a.m.), Glendora Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Jurors deliberated for two days before finding a former Monterey Park police officer guilty of forcing women to expose themselves and touching them during traffic stops.
Israel Sanchez was found guilty of five counts of sexual battery by restraint, five counts of assault under color of authority, three counts of false imprisonment by violence and one count of soliciting a bribe, said Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Sanchez could face a maximum of 11 years in state prison if convicted as charged. He must also register as a lifetime sex offender. From July to August of 2014, Sanchez forced each female victim to expose herself during traffic stops while Sanchez was on duty. “On two occasions, he touched the women after ordering them to expose themselves. The victims were between 19 and 28 years old,” said Prosecutor Hyunah Suh. Sanchez is scheduled to be sentenced April 24 in Department 124 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

WHITTIER – A masked man darted out of a pickup truck and made off with a family’s stroller left out on the front porch February 19.
The burglary was caught on camera, occurring around 2:30 a.m. in the 10800 block of Pounds Avenue. A thin man in a dark t-shirt and dark pants ran up to the front porch and took the stroller.
