The body was found near mile marker 31.1 around Noon. The body has apparently been over the side about 50 feet and has been there for a long time, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters and Sheriff’s deputies were responding on what was originally dispatched as a vehicle over the side. A crime scene is being established at the time this post went live. A supervisor with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station said he had no information to provide yet and that his deputies are at the scene. No further information is available. Residents reported the chemical smell in Azusa, Glendora, Covina and San Dimas. Dispatch Supervisor Imogene McBride of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched to two different locations after calls from residents. Firefighters were dispatched to the 600 block of Enid Avenue in Covina at 3:39 p.m. to determine a source of the stink. Firefighters were soon dispatched to East Claraday Street and South Bradford Drive at 3:45 p.m. in Glendora on a second report. There were no structure or vehicle fire reports in the area of that time. A source was not located. Dereck Peña, 21, was officially charged Tuesday and faces a possible maximum sentence of three years and eight months in state prison if convicted as charged, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. An ex-girlfriend alerted authorities November 7 after Peña allegedly told her about the acts of violence intended against South Hills High School, Santiago said. Real machetes, replica body armor, replica handguns and replica rifles were found at Peña’s home the following day, West Covina Police said. Peña was found in his residence and arrested without incident, West Covina Police said. The unspecified threat and video surfaced November 8, one day after detectives were determining the source of additional threats, the latter deemed non-credible, West Covina Police said. Jose Alcarez, 32, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Alcarez was pronounced dead at the scene after deputies arrived to the intersection of Del Valle Avenue and Fairgrove Avenue, according to Deputy Tony Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Homicide detectives have yet to release a suspect description or a possible motive in the shooting. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Michael Anthony Barry pleaded no contest to five felony counts of lewd act upon a child, five misdemeanor counts of child molesting and one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, said Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Barry assaulted the girls, ranging in age from 10 to 12 years old, at Torch Middle School, 751 Vineland Ave., in Industry from August of 2016 to May 2017. One victim was molest from August 2014 to June 2015, Santiago said. Barry faces a maximum of 14 years in state prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced in Department F of Pomona Superior COurt December 11. No one was injured in the plane or in any vehicles on the westbound 210 freeway after the plane landed east of Mountain Avenue sometime after 3:30 p.m. A mayday call was made before the landing. As of 6:45 p.m., the plane was still in the process of being moved, according to the California Highway Patrol Inland Center. The single-engine, fixed-wing Cessna 182P is registered to G & N Enterprises, LLC in Sparks, Nevada. A Sig Alert affecting the No. 3 and 4 lanes remains in effect for the 210 west east of Mountain Avenue. The aircraft landed in the No. 3 lane of the 210 freeway sometime after 3:30 p.m. The aircraft did not hit any vehicles, according to the CHP Traffic Management Center. A Sig Alert was issued at 3:52 p.m. for the west 210 east of Mountain Avenue for an unknown duration. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The woman accused of using her car to intentionally hit a cyclist made her first court appearance Tuesday. Sandra Marie Wicksted, 61, faced one count of murder and four counts of attempted murder after she struck and killed a cyclist and attempted to hit at least four others on a Claremont road November 3, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Wicksted’s criminal complaint alleges she used her vehicle as a dangerous and deadly weapon and that her crimes were willful, deliberate and premeditated.
The collision occurred at Radcliffe Drive and Mills Avenue at 11:35 a.m. November 3. Killed in the crash was 54-year-old cyclist Leslie Pray. During the crash, Wicksted’s green 1996 Mercury Tracer station wagon slammed into a wall and became heavily damaged. Wicksted’s bail was set at $6.1 million. She faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison if convicted as charged, Santiago said. Ryan Michael Venti, 33, was taken into custody at 7:55 p.m. November 5. He is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Deputies responded with a helicopter to the residence, 3643 Crooked Creek Dr., in Diamond Bar around 7:50 p.m. after receiving a call from a neighbor. Venti was seen in a white hoodie in the backyard of the home where parents John Venti and Linda Venti died. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic, the resident was speaking to Venti over a fence and kept him talking until deputies arrived. After repeatedly stating Ryan Venti was merely wanted for questioning, he was later sought for the killing of his parents and the arson of their home. A dog also perished in the fire. Ryan Venti was taken into custody without incident, according to Deputy Kim Alexander of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “From the condition of the suspect, it appears that he has been hiding in the surrounding hills and brush in an attempt to avoid capture,” Alexander said. A motive for the killings has yet to be determined. Venti is scheduled to appear in Pomona Municipal Court Wednesday, November 7. |
