There were no victims inside the crashed vehicle. The two occupants who climbed to the road were airlifted by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's helicopter. MOUNTAINS - A five acre brush fire has ignited along Highway 39 at mile marker 35.29, the U.S. Forest Service is reporting. The U.S. Forest Service is in scene and is requesting assistance from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol. Firefighters believe a vehicle crashed over the side of the road and ignited the fire. Possibly two occupants from the crash found their way to the road. It is unclear if anyone else may still be in the vehicle, according to the U.S. Forest Service. An existing hand line put in place by firefighters who worked the Bobcat Fire is helping to keep flames back. Ana Miramontes, 41, was named by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. While the coroner would not release the name of the man because next of kin had not been notified, the California Highway Patrol identified him as Daniel Miramontes who is in his 40s. The fatal collision occurred on the eastbound I-10 freeway at Via Verde around 2:08 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing a black minivan rear end a white sedan, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Both Ana Miramontes and Daniel Miramontes occupied the white sedan that was rear ended. They both died at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol officer Xavier Becerra. Both fatal victims were pronounced dead at the scene at 2:30 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The crash initially affected the No. 2, 3 and 4 traffic lanes. CHP officers temporarily had all lanes blocked during the investigation. Eventually all lanes, except for the No. 1 lane, remained closed. A good Samaritan attempted to perform CPR on at least one person injured in the crash who was reportedly down in lanes of traffic, according to CHP traffic logs. Two others were injured in the crash: an 18-year-old man who suffered major injuries and a 16-year-old male who suffered moderate injuries were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, according to the CHP. Initial reports from the scene indicated that one person, possibly two people, ran from the crash and into the nearby foothills. The CHP requested assistance from the air in locating a person described as a driver who fled into the foothills, according to CHP traffic logs. It is unclear if the CHP determined if someone actually ran from the crash scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS - Firefighters are rescuing one injured occupant of a vehicle that plunged an estimated 400 feet down Angeles Crest Highway Sunday. The driver of the vehicle was declared dead at the scene of the crash one mile south of a fire station along Angeles Crest Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol. The surviving occupant is needing immediate aid, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The CHP was called to near mile marker 33.34 around 7:16 p.m. November 8. According to CHP traffic logs, an occupant of the vehicle flagged down a passerby to tell them about the crash. A Los Angeles County Fire helicopter will be taking the surviving patient. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - The California Highway Patrol is asking for public assistance in locating the driver of a white 1990s Ford Ranger who struck and killed a man on the sidewalk in South San Jose Hills August 24. Nearby security video recorded the truck seen in the area of the time of the collision. The 1990s Ford Ranger likely suffered collision damage to the right headlight and possibly along the right side of the truck. The driver was hauling landscaping equipment in the bed of the truck, which featured landscaping business logos on the doors, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at 9:44 a.m. Monday. The truck was being driven westbound on Valley Boulevard west of Giano Avenue in the right lane when the driver veered over the north sidewalk. A pedestrian was struck and left for dead on the sidewalk as the driver fled westbound on Valley Boulevard.
The pedestrian was identified as 82-year-old Ramon Reynoso of Los Angeles. Reynoso was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he died. The driver is believed to be a Hispanic or white man. The crash occurred just north of mile marker 23.11 around 7:26 a.m. July 26. CHP officers have closed both north and southbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. All lanes of Highway 39 were closed at 8:30 a.m. and are expected to remain closed for three hours, the CHP said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - Authorities named the man who was recovered in a submerged vehicle that plunged over a mountain road. Abraham Tapia Jr., a 26-year-old Azusa man, was identified by Investigator Nani Cholakians of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Tapia was in a vehicle that veered off of Highway 39, down the mountainside and into the San Gabriel Dam July 2. The Chevy Camaro crashed through a chain link fence and became submerged in the water around 10:20 p.m. A passenger, 26-year-old Azusa man Andres Peralta, freed himself, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Peralta was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be found, the CHP said. Rescuers searched for the vehicle and discovered its location at 4 a.m. Friday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau successfully lifted the destroyed Camaro July 4. One person from the vehicle was found near the crash scene. That person was transported by ground to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to dispatch supervisor Troy of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The crash was reported around at 10:23 p.m. July 2, according to Lt. Ed MacKenzie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The crash occurred along San Gabriel Canyon Road at mile marker 21.67 The vehicle is submerged as much as 17 feet deep. A passerby either observed the crash as it happened, or saw the damage and called authorities, MacKenzie told SGV CityWatch. The crash damaged a reported 100 feet of chain link fence along the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Los Angeles County Fire Department sent a dive team and used sonar to locate the vehicle, but an extensive search that included a helicopter did not yield an additional victim, according to fire department radio traffic. Search operations will resume with the Sheriff’s Department after 7 a.m., MacKenzie told SGV CityWatch. “Our Emergency Services Detail handles our dive team. They’re trying to get in touch with the folks up on the mountain,” MacKenzie said regarding the continued search operations. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor RIVERSIDE - A man was taken into custody in a residential area Sunday afternoon after leading the California Highway Patrol and Sheriff’s deputies on a chase that lasted more than three hours. The suspect is accused of taking a large white box truck in South El Monte just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 31. The keys were reportedly left in the ignition, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. During the initial investigation, a deputy spotted the box truck in the area of Rush Street and Peck Road. The deputy followed the truck until backup arrived to perform a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield and entered the eastbound I-10 freeway. The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit on the eastbound I-10 freeway near via Verde in the San Dimas area. After transitioning to the eastbound 210 freeway, the suspect took the southbound 15 into Temecula before turning back northbound.
After exiting onto surface streets in Perris, the driver found his way to a dirt race track near the Perris State Recreational Area, entered the race track and drove around before trying to exit back from where he entered. CHP officers boxed in the driver who then drove around the track, busted his way through a fence and was able to exit out onto Ramona Expressway. Even with heavily damaged tires, the driver kept moving along surface streets before entering the westbound 60 freeway. The driver was finally taken into custody after Good Samaritans attempted to get the driver out of the stopped box truck at Columbia Avenue and Primer Street in Riverside. The collision was reported just before 12:30 a.m. April 24. A white BMW slammed into a heavy metal gate used to close the road, according to California Highway patrol traffic logs.
One person was declared dead on arrival, a second person was taken to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital with undisclosed injuries, according to Dispatch Supervisor Troy of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The road was cleared by 5:10 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A Montebello resident was killed on a stretch of the I-10 freeway in Pomona Saturday after he exited his vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said. Christopher Gilpineda, 21, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Gilpineda exited his 2017 Honda Civic around 11:25 p.m. after getting a flat tire in the No. 3 and 4 lanes on the westbound I-10 freeway just west of Kellogg Drive. A 2018 Honda Civic first struck Gilpineda’s car before striking him, according to the CHP.
Gilpineda died at the scene of multiple blunt force injuries, the county coroner said All westbound lanes at Kellogg Drive were closed, as well as the northbound and southbound 57 freeway and 71 freeway trans roads to the westbound I-10 freeway, according to the CHP.
