Jeanette Gallegos, 27, and Justin Joseph, 28, were identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Deputies responded to the 9200 block of Pentland Street on a report of domestic violence with a gunshot victim. Deputies discovered a 27-year-old woman suffering multiple gunshot wounds and 28-year-old man suffer a likely self-inflicted wound. Both died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “Three juveniles, ranging in age from 5 to 11, were removed from the home unharmed upon the deputies’ arrival. The three lived in the home and are believed to be the children of the deceased female victim,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. A handgun was recovered at the scene. Deputies will announce the arrest and provide the name of the suspect and a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20 at the Sheriff’s Temple Station, 8838 E. Las Tunas Dr., in Temple City. The brutal assault and armed robbery of a rideshare driver in South El Monte May 10 was caught on the driver’s dash camera and shared far and wide. The assault and robbery occurred near Rosemead Boulevard and Rush Street around 9:20 p.m. The driver, an older Asian man, was left multiple facial trauma, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The 52-year-old detainee questioned in the shooting death of an 83-year-old man was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder. John McHugh, a Temple City man, is accused of shooting his father, said Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The father, Michael Patrick McHugh, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The shooting occurred in the 4900 block of Halifax Road just after 3 p.m. April 24. Deputies responding to the gunshot victim call found Michael McHugh suffering from a wound to the upper torso. He died at the scene, investigators said. John McHugh was detained at the scene. Booking records show McHugh was arrested at 4:30 p.m. April 24. He is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles in lieu of $2.03 million bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Alhambra Superior Court April 28. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - Several people in a reported stolen Toyota were taken into custody Tuesday after recklessly leading authorities across several cities, a Sheriff’s sergeant said. The pursuit was initiated by authorities with a multi-jurisdictional auto theft task force in the West Covina area September 17. The pursuit went as far south as the Pico Rivera border from the 605 freeway before deputies cancelled the chase due to unsafe speeds, according to Lt. Verlich of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Pico Rivera Station. Pico Rivera deputies first joined the pursuit at 3:35 p.m. It was unclear if the stolen vehicle investigation was conducted by the Taskforce for Regional Autotheft Prevention (TRAP). The driver, still followed by unmarked task force personnel, journeyed back north to the El Monte and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station jurisdiction before heading south on the 605 freeway again. The pursuit was witnessed by a SGV CityWatch reader as El Monte Police followed the stolen vehicle with the assistance of a helicopter.
El Monte officers were notified by the helicopter pilot at 3:43 p.m. and picked up the pursuit at Valley Boulevard and the 605 freeway after deputies decided to cancel the chase, according to Lt. Michael Buckhannon of the El Monte Police Department. Due to the driver’s reckless nature, El Monte officers ended the chase somewhere in the City of Industry at 3:57 p.m., Buckhannon said. It is unclear how many of the suspects were booked on charges and if the suspects were detained without further incident. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Police and Sheriff’s deputies have a pursuit suspect surrounded in a mobile home park as the driver refuses to stop. The driver behind a reported stolen vehicle from West Covina is circling the roads in the Brookside Country Club, 12700 Elliot Ave. All entrances and exits into the mobile home park are covered, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. A deputy with the Sheriff’s Temple Station began pursuing the suspect in the El Monte area just after 9 p.m. after the deputy discovered the license plate belonged to a stolen vehicle.
The driver fled the deputy through El Monte streets into the Brookside Country Club where El Monte officers took over the pursuit. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A deputy assigned to the Sheriff’s Temple Station remains hospitalized, but in stable condition after falling down a flight of stairs while fighting with a suspect. The deputy, a 6-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, was rushed by ground ambulance to County/USC Medical Center after becoming injured around 5:55 p.m. January 29. The deputy received a head injury in the fall. The deputy responded to a call of a a reported drunk man on the second floor of a business in the 5600 block of Rosemead Boulevard in Temple City. During an arrest attempt, the deputy and suspect, 58-year-old William Gerald Penn began fighting and eventually fell down some stairs, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Penn, an Arcadia man, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. Penn was briefly hospitalized for minor injuries, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Todd Strithongkham was found dead inside a vehicle Thursday night, according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. An autopsy has not been scheduled. Strithongkham may have died of natural causes. Deputies were called to the parking lot around 9:16 p.m. August 9, according to Lt. Frank Ruiz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The vehicle was located in the eastern portion of the Target lot, 1050 Huntington Dr., closer to the Sonic Drive-In. A passerby approached the man who was initially described as unresponsive and cold to the touch, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Four days after he died, Sheriff’s homicide detectives announce the victim of a gas station shooting succumbed to his injures.
The victim, Jose Arroyo of Compton, was taken off life support and succumbed to his injuries late Friday. Arroyo and a companion were confronted at the Shell gas station, 1130 Peck Rd., June 4 around 1:46 a.m. Arroyo was shot in the back of the head after having what was described by investigators as “a brief conversation with a Hispanic male” while inside the convenience store. Moments later, Arroyo approached the car the Hispanic male as he pumped gas at his vehicle. A passenger in the suspect vehicle shot Arroyo. The gunman was then driven away by the Hispanic male in a grey hatchback, Homicide detectives said. The weapon has not been recovered. The shooting is likely gang-related.
