The crimes all occurred, strangely enough, on 7/11. A clerk in Brea was shot and killed inside a convenience store, while a man outside a Santa Ana store was shot and killed. An Ontario store was robbed just after midnight Monday at 636 N. Vine Ave. A robbery in Upland occurred around 12:40 a.m. at 2410 W. Arrow Rte. An image taken from surveillance video shows a uncanny similarity to the Brea robbery and murder. A Riverside 7-Eleven, 5102 La Sierra Ave., was robbed around 1:50 a.m. A customer was shot and was last listed in grave condition, according to the Riverside Police Department. Investigators released two images taken from a surveillance camera inside the store, giving the public a clearer view of the outstanding suspect. A man, identified as 24-year-old Matthew Rule, was shot and killed outside a 7-Eleven, 302 E. 17th St., just before 3:30 a.m. Santa Ana Police confirmed Monday afternoon their suspect was the man connected to the other 7-Eleven shootings. Brea police officers and firefighters responded to the 7-Eleven, 109 W. Lambert Rd., around 4:18 a.m. to a report of an employee down, suffering from a gunshot wound. The clerk, identified as 40-year-old Matthre Hirsch, was pronounced dead by firefighters, according to the Brea Police Department. Investigators believe the same suspect wounded two people at a La Habra 7-Eleven, 381 E. Whittier Blvd. La Habra police responded to the scene around 4:55 a.m. Both Victims were treated at a hospital where they were last listed in stable condition. It is unclear if a robbery at a 7-Eleven in Vincent July 9 is connected to this string of Monday violence. The suspect. a Black man with a thin build and dressed in dark clothing, took cash while brandishing a handgun. Jeanette Gallegos, 27, and Justin Joseph, 28, were identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Deputies responded to the 9200 block of Pentland Street on a report of domestic violence with a gunshot victim. Deputies discovered a 27-year-old woman suffering multiple gunshot wounds and 28-year-old man suffer a likely self-inflicted wound. Both died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “Three juveniles, ranging in age from 5 to 11, were removed from the home unharmed upon the deputies’ arrival. The three lived in the home and are believed to be the children of the deceased female victim,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. A handgun was recovered at the scene. Alfonso Guzman Jr., a 26-year-old Duarte man and father of two, was shot dead in his vehicle as he sat parked with his girlfriend on a scenic overlook in the 3300 block of Turnbull Canyon Road around 1 a.m. May 20. His girlfriend suffered injuries not life-threatening, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide detectives announced a $10,000 reward at a November 18 news conference for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
Through translation, Guzman’s mother, Maria Ayala pleaded with the community to help catch her son’s killer. “My son was a good son, a good father. He leaves behind two boys, two boys that are suffering and constantly ask about him. They go to school and tell me: ‘mama, daddy is watching over me, he is hugging me. When is he coming?’ When it rains they say: ‘daddy is getting wet. When is he getting down from up there?’ My son was a hardworking person, he was attending school and had many projects planned ahead. As a mother who is dead inside, I beg that if anybody knows something please call. Thank you,” Ayala said. Sidney Terrence Johnson, a 25-year-old Los Angeles man, was tracked down after a two-month investigation and arrested at his home. He was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. The case has been submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, according to the California Highway Patrol. Bertha Hernandez, 35, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a crash vehicle on the eastbound 210 freeway east of Baldwin Avenue, September 4. Hernandez was driving a black Mercedes-Benz when the shooting occurred around 9:05 a.m. “Upon arrival, officers observed a solo vehicle that had multiple bullet holes on the driver's side and the solo female occupant inside the vehicle had sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” according to the California Highway Patrol in a written statement. CHP officers responding to calls of gunfire and a traffic collision found the Mercedes-Benz had crashed into a sound wall, multiple bullet holes peppered the driver side. Hernandez was declared dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol. The events leading up to the shooting are either unknown, or have yet to be publicly shared. Johnson is being held at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles. There is no court date information available. The remains belonged to 51-year-old Miguel King. He died from a gunshot wound to the head. His death is listed as a homicide, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. King’s body was discovered along Glendora Mountain Road near mile marker 1 about 15 feet off the roadway August 14, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic. King was initially listed as DOE #14 until coroner investigators were able to identify the body. The body discovered in the mountains is likely the same Miguel King, also age 51, who was listed as a missing person by Sheriff’s detectives. Miguel Angel King was last seen by his family at his Los Angeles home in the 12300 block of Spring Street July 20. He reportedly did not have a history of going missing, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The niece of Miguel Angel King started a gofundme page to raise funeral expenses for her uncle. The missing King’s white Toyota hatchback was found abandoned and parked at an Inglewood apartment complex in the 100 block of West Queen Street around 1 p.m. July 24, according to the Los Angeles Times. Investigators are searching for Edward Figueroa, who is a member of the Harpys 13 gang. An argument inside a bar located in the 5200 block of Pomona Boulevard in East Los Angeles led to Figueroa reportedly revealing a handgun and opening fire, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Figueroa is known to carry a weapon and should be considered armed and dangerous. San Dimas Sheriff’s Station Captain Walid Ashrafnia will be flanked by Homicide Bureau personnel, Sheriff Alex Villanueva and a representative of Los Angeles County Board Supervisor Kathryn Barger to discuss the shooting death of Gerald Purdue. Described as an avid hiker, 63-year-old Gerald “Myles” Perdue was found dead along Mt. Baldy Road near mile marker 3.09. Deputies were notified at 1:45 p.m. An overview of a coroner report noted Perdue died on a hiking trail, the victim of a gunshot wound to the chest. “Deputies from San Dimas Station responded to the location regarding an unresponsive male who was found in a culvert about 60 yards off the road. Upon their arrival, deputies located the victim, a male White in his 60’s who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso and pronounced deceased,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau in a previous statement. Deputies were called to Mt. Baldy Road at mile marker 3.09 around 1:45 p.m. March 25 to an unresponsive man found 60 yards off of the roadside, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The unidentified man’s vehicle was recovered at the scene. It is not yet clear if the man’s wounds were self-inflicted. The train operator was shot at least two times at the Indiana L Line Station in East Los Angeles around 4:11 a.m. The suspect walked up to the front of the train as it stopped and fired twice. The suspect ran after the operator fleeing through the train and opened fire again, injuring the operator, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The motive in the shooting is either unknown, or has yet to be publicly shared. The suspect fled on foot northbound off the platform and west on Gleason Avenue, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority authorized a $25,000 reward. Hilda Solis, Los Angeles County Board Supervisor and Metro 1st Vice Chair, has contributed $10,000 to the reward. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A Pomona man was booked on suspicion of several felony counts of attempted murder and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle after being arrested more than four months after shooting at a vehicle occupied by a man, woman and child, the CHP said.
Preston Urel Givens Jr., 25, is accused of unloading a firearm at a Nissan Altima on the I-10 freeway near Fairplex Drive July 10, 2020 after a highway violence incident. He was identified by members of the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Special Enforcement Team, according to the CHP. Givens was arrested during a traffic stop November 13. None of the intended victims were injured. After the incident, which occurred at 12:30 a.m., the victims went back to their residence in Bakersfield. “Officers from the CHP Baldwin Park Special Enforcement Team conducted extensive follow up for this investigation. As a result of their efforts, they were able to identify the suspect,” According to Officer Tony Chen of the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Special Enforcement Team. Givens is being held in lieu of more than $3.6 million bail at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. His next scheduled court date is November 20 in Pomona Superior Court. |
