CityWatch Editor ROSEMEAD - Sheriff’s investigators announced the arrest of a young couple in connection with the death of their 1-year-old child. Leslie Garcia, 20, was arrested and booked on suspicion of child abuse. Jonathan Salazar, 21, was booked on suspicion of murder, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. First responders found the child in medical distress and not breathing November 9 in a home in the 2600 block of Strathmore Avenue after being dispatched around 7 p.m. The child is treated and taken to a hospital where the child died November November 15, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Medical staff alerted deputies to the child’s multiple physical injuries. The Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau assumed the investigation and arrested Garcia November 12. Upon the child’s death, Sheriff’s homicide investigators took over the case and discovered additional evidence to arrest Salazar on suspicion of murder November 22. The 1-year-old child has a sibling who is currently in protective custody with the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services. Salazar is being held in lieu of $5 million bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court November 26.
