CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - Road closures are in effect after a vehicle slammed into a wall and sheared a hydrant Monday morning. Southbound lanes of Fullerton Road from Pathfinder Road to Sunrise Drive have been blocked by the California Highway Patrol. First responders were sent to the crash just before 8:30 a.m. February 23. A preliminary account indicates a silver Honda CRV crashed. The collision also knocked down a light standard, according to CHP traffic logs. It is not publicly clear if anyone else was in the crashed vehicle, nor is it immediately known if another vehicle was involved in the crash. CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested a suspect in the death of a man found laying near an intersection. Walnut Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the 18000 block of Colima Road regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call. Deputies found a man at the intersection of Colima Road and Jellick Avenue, suffering from blunt force trauma. Los Angeles County Firefighters responded and pronounced the victim deceased, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It was not immediately clear when deputies were called, but the suspect’s arrest time is 2:14 a.m. Deputies learned the suspect who was armed with a large stick, hit the victim. The suspect was seen leaving the location on a bus which was stopped by deputies. Public arrest records show Richard Castillo was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder in the first degree. CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - Sheriff’s deputies and county medical examiner investigators are looking into the death of a motorist Friday. A driver suffered an apparent medical emergency. The driver stopped outside of Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 145, 1525 S. Nogales St., according to Sgt. Tinoco of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. According to a cellphone recording made by a motorist, deputies had the body covered up on the asphalt right outside the station. Tinoco declined to provide any more details. CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - Investigators have yet to publicly identify a man found shot in a vehicle at a motel December 8. The man was apparently a guest of a Motel 6, 18970 Labin Ct. First responders were called to the scene around 1:52 a.m. regarding a gunshot victim, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a hospital where he died, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is unclear if detectives have determined a motive. The motel was the scene of another fatal shooting October 3 where a man was found dead in the courtyard. First responders were sent to the 18900 block of Labin Court around 1:13 a.m. Wednesday morning. The victim, only described as an adult male Latino, was declared dead at the scene in the courtyard of the Motel 6, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is unclear if detectives have a suspect description, or have identified a suspect. CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - Detectives are searching for the shooter who murdered a man in a Rowland Heights neighborhood Tuesday night. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station were called to the 2500 block of Doubletree Lane in Rowland Heights around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. Deputies were told there was a gunshot victim at the location and one was found, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, was shot through the neck. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics declared the man dead at the scene. The suspect is apparently unknown. Investigators revealed that a suspect was arrested and a weapon was recovered, but have not revealed the suspect’s name, or a possible motive. The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Sierra Leone Avenue. Deputies responded to multiple calls of a gunshot victim. Deputies found two victims, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second male Hispanic adult victim was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition,” according to the Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. The cause of death has been deferred, pending additional investigation, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. LOS ANGELES - An exam awaits six days after a 23-year-old woman was found dead in a vehicle parked on a Rowland Heights street December 28. Desteny Curtis was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Social media posts claim Curtis went missing and was last seen in Hacienda Heights/Rowland Heights area Christmas Day. Curtis was found after first responders were called to a report of a person not breathing in the 18400 block of Santar Street, according to Sgt. Davis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. Firefighters received the call around 8:42 p.m. Curtis was officially pronounced dead at 8:45 p.m., according to coroner Public Information Officer Sarah Ardalani. ROWLAND HEIGHTS - One person died Monday evening in a vehicle on the eastbound 60 freeway west of Fullerton Road. First responders located a red Dodge minivan in the center divider just after 7:30 p.m. January 2. Los Angeles County firefighters had to remove the person from the Dodge minivan to perform CPR, but the person died at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. First Responders were told a possible seizure led to the death. It is unclear if the person who died was a passenger, or was a driver. It is also unclear if the minivan crashed into the center divider or merely had stopped. As of 8:50 p.m., the HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes were blocked as first responders waited for investigators from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. |
