Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A 9-millimeter gun was found inside the car of a suspect accused of opening fire on a driver during a road rage incident.
The suspect, 34-year-old Scott Rohner of West Covina, was found and arrested outside a business in the 600 block of West Arrow Highway at 1 p.m. September 28--two days after the confrontation at Lone Hill and Cienega avenues, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Rohner allegedly became enraged after the other motorist entered the road in front of him around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. Words were exchanged and Rohner brandished the handgun and opened fire. The bullet missed the victim and their car, San Dimas deputies said. “An off duty Deputy Sheriff spotted the suspect vehicle in front of a business in the 600 block of West Arrow Highway in San Dimas. Responding on-duty deputies were able to take the man into custody without incident,” San Dimas deputies said. The 9-millimeter handgun was found resting in the driver’s door pocket. Three loaded magazines were also found near the handgun, including one with a 30-round capacity, deputies said. Rohner was booked on suspicion of being a convicted felon possessing a loaded firearm, carrying a loaded firearm concealed in a vehicle and possession of a loaded unregistered firearm. He is being held in L.A. County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail. The shooting took place on westbound Cienega Avenue at Lone Hill Avenue just after 4 p.m. September 26. Both drivers were westbound on Cienega at Lone Hill when the road rage occurred, according to Lt. Mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The suspect fired one round in a northwest direction at the other driver. The shot missed the driver and vehicle, Skaggs said. The fired round was not located. The victim remained at the scene and provided a statement to deputies. The suspect fled westbound in a black Civic, Skaggs said. |
