Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A driver crashed into a power pole early Sunday, causing severe damage to the pole and outages nearby. The crash occurred on Arrow Highway between Walnut Avenue and San Dimas Canyon Road just after 5 a.m. October 27. Deputies are redirecting traffic. Live wires fell across traffic lanes and briefly ignited grass on a center median across Arrow Highway, according to Sgt. Michael McGrattan of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The 23-year-old driver was reportedly uninjured, but she was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, McGrattan said.
Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported two people were hospitalized in the crash with one being taken to a trauma center for treatment. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, McGrattan said. Southern California Edison Reports as many as 60 customers are without power. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Two deputies were mildly injured Wednesday after a stolen vehicle suspect began fighting with them in a shopping center parking lot. Deputies responded to the Big 5 Sporting Goods parking lot, 1073 W. Arrow Hwy., around 1:15 p.m. October 23 to search for a reported stolen vehicle from Montclair which was tracked through GPS, according to Lt. Mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The suspect was entering the Mercedes-Benz SUV, saw the arriving deputies and decided to walk away. He refused to comply with deputies, Skaggs said. Deputies eventually employed use of force to subdue the suspect, including pepper spray, Skaggs said. The suspect sustained scraped and bruises. One deputy complained of pain to his head after being struck. The second deputy sustained an injury to his nose, Skaggs said.
The suspect and deputies were examined at area hospitals and were released, Skaggs said. Denzel Thompson, 27, was booked on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and felony assault on a peace officer, Skaggs said. Thompson is being held without bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Municipal Court October 25. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A roughly three-acre brush fire was stopped after posing a threat to homes, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said Wednesday.
The fire was reported around 9:49 a.m. near the southbound 57 freeway to 71 freeway interchange October 16. Firefighters announced forward progress on the Fire was stopped around 10:14 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The Canadian-manufactured Super Scoopers were called, but have since been cancelled. A two-hour Sig Alert was issued for the No. 2, 3, and 4 lanes of the south 57 north of Via Verde for firefighters to work, the California Highway Patrol said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - An unknown suspect likely fired a gun from a vehicle, causing external damage to a home early Monday. The shooting took place in the 300 block of West Calora Street around 3 a.m. October 7. No one was hit by the multiple rounds of gunfire, according to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. A suspect has yet to be identified. Deputies do not believe at this time that the shooting was gang related, Sachs said.
