Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Two teens who decided to run were arrested along with two other teens during a traffic stop near the 57 freeway Sunday afternoon.
All four teens, identified as 16 and under, were arrested December 31. A San Dimas Sheriff’s Station deputy attempted a traffic stop when the driver decided to take off before stopping on a freeway on ramp, allowing two teens to flee on foot, according to Sgt. White of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. The deputy attempted a traffic stop after recognizing the occupants from a bulletin distributed through law enforcement agencies regarding grand thefts from area cell phone stores, White said. The driver sped away as the deputy approached the vehicle, failed to negotiate the turn on the on ramp and the vehicle went slightly into the bushes, White said. The teens who fled the traffic stop on foot hid in a neighborhood north of the 57 freeway and Arrow Highway, sparking a containment and helicopter search. The teens were eventually found. All four teens were issued citations and released to their parents/guardians, White said. “At this point they’re being investigated for grand theft of cell phones,” White said. Phones were found inside the vehicle, but it wasn’t immediately clear how many of the phones belonged to the suspects.
