SAN DIMAS - All westbound lanes of the 210 freeway east of San Dimas Avenue are closed for an unknown duration after a reported collision involving law enforcement. Information is lacking at the time this post was launched, but there was an initial report that a police motorcycle officer was involved in the collision, according to Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. CHP officers were dispatched to the crash around 4:48 a.m. The extent of injuries to the officer, as well as the agency the officer serves was not immediately known. It is unclear how many vehicles were involved in the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK – The Coroner identified a man who died after crashing into the center divider of the southbound 57 freeway in San Dimas early Saturday morning.
Leobardo Estrada, 24, from Baldwin Park, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. An exam has yet to be scheduled to determine cause of death, but a statement issued by the California Highway Patrol indicated Estrada suffered blunt force trauma to the head and chest. Estrada crashed and died after apparently losing control of his 2018 Suzuki GSX R600 south on the 57 freeway south of Covina Boulevard around 12:36 a.m. He was at an unknown high rate of speed when he hit the divider, according to the California Highway Patrol. Estrada veered left and sideswiped the divider. He was ejected from the motorcycle. A Sig Alert was issued at 1:05 a.m. for the No. 1 lane of the south 57 freeway north of Covina Boulevard. The Sig Alert was cancelled at 2:57 a.m. It is unclear if alcohol and/or drugs factored in the crash. James Bryson, 58, died in the early-morning crash on the westbound 210 freeway east of Lone Hill Avenue. Bryson’s cause of death has been deferred, pending additional investigation. The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol around 4:20 a.m. For unknown reasons, Bryson’s 1994 Chevrolet Express van struck a trailer being hauled behind a 2012 Volvo tractor in the No. 4 lane. The van then struck a sound wall and overturned, according to the CHP in a written statement. The Chevrolet van became fully engulfed in flames. Bryson and his dogs died at the scene. The westbound No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes were blocked for nearly three hours during cleanup and an investigation. It is unclear if alcohol, or drugs were factors in the crash. The No. 3 and 4 lanes of the westbound 210 freeway west of San Dimas Avenue will be closed for possibly two hours during cleanup and an investigation. The van overturned and began catching fire around 4:22 a.m. in the slow lane. An early report indicated the van collided with a big rig, according to the California Highway Patrol. At 4:37 a.m. the solo occupant inside the van was declared dead. Firefighters will remain in scene for at least an hour for cleanup and to assist with body removal, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Christian Raygoza, 27, was arrested after surrendering himself to CHP officers in the parking lot shared by Bank of the West, 614 N. Lone Hill Ave., and Olive Garden, 582 N. Lone Hill Ave. Officers followed him after reports of a man driving recklessly and brandishing a weapon, according to Rodrigo Jimenez of the California Highway Patrol. Raygoza was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. A toy dart gun was found inside his vehicle, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. The reckless driving and weapon brandishing occurred on the westbound 210 freeway near Archibald Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. CHP officers located the driver of a 2009 Toyota Corolla as it exited Lone Hill Avenue in Glendora. CHP officers attempted a traffic stop with lights and sirens. The suspect stopped at the shopping center at the southeast corner of Lone Hill Avenue and Gladstone Street just before 7 p.m. “The officers instructed the suspect to exit his vehicle; however, the suspect refused to comply. Instead, the suspect stayed inside his vehicle and was seen on a video call using his cell phone,” Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. Raygoza eventually surrendered. Additional charges are pending, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. Raygoza, a La Puente resident, was issued a citation and released the following morning. He is scheduled to appear at the West Covina Courthouse January 5, 2022, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a freeway fatality after a woman apparently died on the northbound 57 freeway just south of Covina Boulevard June 21.
The crash was reported to the CHP around 11:57 p.m. Monday. One victim, described as a 40-year-old woman, was reported down near a stopped vehicle, according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the CHP Traffic Management Center. Firefighters arrived at 12:14 a.m. and discovered a woman down and unresponsive to the rear of a Chevy Suburban. The woman was declared dead on arrival, according to a representative for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is unclear if the woman was a motorist, or a pedestrian. A total of four vehicles were stopped on the shoulder near the crash, Nicholson told SGV CityWatch. A two-hour Sig Alert was issued for the No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes at 12:37 a.m., Nicholson told SGV CityWatch. The Sig Alert was cancelled at 3:57 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - The Kellogg Drive offramp from the westbound I-10 freeway in San Dimas will remain closed until at least 11 a.m. after a semi and tractor trailer fell off the freeway and landed on the street below, spilling produce across the road.
The crash was reported to the CHP at 4:11 a.m. December 31. It is not immediately clear if anyone was injured when the semi and tractor trailer fell. The Los Angeles County Fire Department has hazmat units still on scene assessing the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - CHP officers arrested an Azusa man October 18, finding him roughly a mile from the scene of a hit-and-run crash that left another man with moderate to major injuries.
Angel Cruz, 19, allegedly used his white Chevy Camaro to strike a 48-year-old man he had been arguing with at the Via Verde Park and Ride. The two men began fighting with each other after Cruz allegedly became angered for an unknown reason, according to Officer Rodrigo Jimenez of the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. The victim was parked and sitting at the park and ride, 21320 Via Verde when Cruz approached his vehicle, knocked on the window and asked for directions to a gas station. The victim exited and the two began talking to each other when, for unknown reasons, Cruz began attacking the victim, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. “The victim tried to get away and the suspect drove after him and hit him with his car,” Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. During the fight, the victim fight back and injured Cruz’s face and hands. “Sometime later, San Dimas parking enforcement located the Camaro and we contacted the suspect and eventually took him into custody,” Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. Cruz was found in the 600 block of Avenida Bernardo, sitting injured inside inside the Camaro, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Cruz was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch.

SAN DIMAS - As many as five people were detained Monday night after a pursuit led by the CHP and Azusa Police ended with a crash.
The suspects were tied to a shooting that occurred in Azusa. The suspects in a white sedan refused to yield for Azusa officers and a chase wound its way through Azusa and Glendora via surface streets and the 210 freeway. The pursuit entered Baldwin Park and Irwindale from the 605 freeway where the suspects used surface streets before going back to Azusa. The driver used eastbound Arrow Highway to escape into San Dimas where the driver crashed into another car. Possibly as many as four vehicles were involved in the crash that shut down all westbound lanes until just after 2:30 a.m. CHP officers were initially told a white Toyota Rav4 was involved in the crash and possibly fled the scene, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. It was not immediately clear if the Rav4 was ever found. |
