Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Two deputies were mildly injured Wednesday after a stolen vehicle suspect began fighting with them in a shopping center parking lot. Deputies responded to the Big 5 Sporting Goods parking lot, 1073 W. Arrow Hwy., around 1:15 p.m. October 23 to search for a reported stolen vehicle from Montclair which was tracked through GPS, according to Lt. Mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The suspect was entering the Mercedes-Benz SUV, saw the arriving deputies and decided to walk away. He refused to comply with deputies, Skaggs said. Deputies eventually employed use of force to subdue the suspect, including pepper spray, Skaggs said. The suspect sustained scraped and bruises. One deputy complained of pain to his head after being struck. The second deputy sustained an injury to his nose, Skaggs said.
The suspect and deputies were examined at area hospitals and were released, Skaggs said. Denzel Thompson, 27, was booked on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and felony assault on a peace officer, Skaggs said. Thompson is being held without bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Municipal Court October 25. |
