Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - A transient with an extensive criminal history was jailed after allegedly crashing a stolen San Gabriel Fire Department ambulance during a pursuit.
The ambulance was taken after paramedics responded to a call for service in the 700 block of Sunset just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 31, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. While on foot in the area the transient, only described as being in his 40s, entered the parked ambulance and sped away. No one else was in the ambulance when it was driven away, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. Police officers located the stolen ambulance and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused and continued fleeing until crashing in the 2800 block of Canterbury Road in San Marino. “The suspect sustained non-life threatening injuries during this pursuit and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. As a result of the suspect colliding into numerous motorist, 2 sustained minor injuries and were released on scene. 3 others sustained minor injuries and were transported to two separate hospitals,” according to the San Gabriel Police Department in a written statement. The ambulance was so badly damaged it was taken out of service and has since been replaced. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - Police arrested the driver of a reported stolen green Honda CRV after the driver led them on a pursuit into West Covina Wednesday morning.
The exact circumstances of how police located the vehicle, where and when they tried a traffic stop are not publicly known. Multiple calls and messages to a San Gabriel Police supervisor went unanswered, but the California Highway Patrol was notified of the pursuit around 3:25 a.m. December 30. A police helicopter notified the CHP East LA Office of the chase as it progressed east on the I-10 freeway east of the 710 freeway, according to CHP radio traffic. The pursuit endured as it headed into the West Covina area, with three San Gabriel Police units following, until the driver exited at Citrus Avenue. The pursuit ended somewhere on Hillside Drive in West Covina with the driver in custody. There may possibly have been one other person detained, according to CHP. It is not publicly known where and when the Honda CRV was stolen. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A man driving a stolen vehicle crashed and ran from officers before being handcuffed Saturday morning, a San Gabriel Police sergeant said.
The suspect fled officers responding to a suspicious vehicle parked in the 800 block of East Hermosa Drive in San Gabriel around 2:17 a.m. The suspect eventually crashed near Arrow Highway and the 605 freeway, according to Sgt. Allen Sam of the San Gabriel Police Department. Officers discovered the vehicle was stolen after they arrived to Hermosa Drive. The suspect drove away before officers could contact him, Sam said. The suspect crashed on private property in Baldwin Park and ran before officers caught and arrested him. The suspect was briefly hospitalized to be medically cleared for booking in the Alhambra jail on suspicion of grand theft auto and recklessly evading police, Sam said. The vehicle was reported stolen November 16 by the Los Angeles Police Department, Sam said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - Three suspects involved in a four-minute chase remain free tonight after fleeing officers on foot after crashing into an officer. An officer attempted to contact three suspicious men near the Hilton Los Angeles, 225 W. Valley Blvd., around 10:54 a.m. Friday. The suspects fled the officer in a black Saturn SUV and a chase was initiated, said Lt. Rene Hernandez of the San Gabriel Police Department. During the chase, the driver intentionally backed into a patrol car pursuing him at an intersection, Hernandez said.
The suspects ran from the crash scene in the 1100 block of Ramona Street. Nearby San Gabriel High School and Alhambra’s Baldwin Elementary School were placed on lockdown as a precaution. Police ended the search at 1:20 p.m., Hernandez said. The suspects are wanted for hit and run, assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest, Hernandez said. The SUV is not reported stolen. Nothing inside the SUV was found, Hernandez said. |
