Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN MARINO - A juvenile with a little too much determination was finally caught after repeatedly fleeing authorities after crashing a stolen vehicle January 4.
The juvenile was able to flee officers by running through yards, a flood control channel and inside a garage before finally being taken into custody. The juvenile is accused of driving a reported stolen vehicle, which was located with the help of an automated license plate reader just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Officers located the stolen vehicle in the southbound turn lane of westbound Huntington Drive at Del Mar Avenue. After turning south on Del Mar, the driver made an abrupt turn to try and evade officers through an alley and eventually crashed into a wall and parked vehicle in the 2400 block of Huntington Drive, according to the San Marino Police Department. The juvenile escaped on foot into a neighborhood on Del Mar Avenue, fled through the Rubio Wash and through the 2500 block of Melville Drive before entering a yard in the 1500 block of Rubio Drive. Officers working a containment search spotted the juvenile as he ran from yard to yard on Rubio Drive. A police helicopter spotted the juvenile taking refuge inside a detached garage at a residence. A K9 flushed out the suspect through a garage window and he continued to flee until officers subdued him during a short foot pursuit, according to the San Marino Police Department. The juvenile was cleared at a hospital for a booking and was jailed on suspicion of burglary, hit-and-run, evading, police, and driving a stolen vehicle. The juvenile was issued a citation to later appear in court, according to the San Marino Police Department. Assisting with the search were Alhambra Police Department drone officers, a Pasadena Police Department helicopter, Pasadena Police Department K9, South Pasadena Police Department and San Gabriel Police Department. The minutes-long chase ended after the driver gave officers the fade in San Gabriel in the 800 block of Valley Boulevard. The vehicle was located and San Gabriel Police officers ran after a male suspect who tried to elude police again, according to the San Marino Police Department. An automated license plate reader notified officers of the carjacked vehicle near San Gabriel Boulevard and California Boulevard just after 9 a.m. March 16. The vehicle, taken from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station patrol area a day prior, was located and stopped near Hermosa Avenue and San Gabriel Boulevard. The driver took off in the vehicle, according to the San Marino Police Department. An eye witness saw two suspects run after the chase ended. “An eyewitness reported seeing a male subject in a white shirt and a female subject in a white shirt exit the vehicle and run west through the rear parking lot and over a wall,” according to the San Marino Police Department in a written statement. The female suspect is still at-large. Police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle after receiving an alert on westbound Huntington Drive from Oak Knoll Avenue just before 2 p.m. the driver sped away and continued to drive at an unsafe speed when officers ended the chase, according to the San Marino Police Department. Moments later, a caller reported a similar-looking vehicle crashed on Huntington Drive at Pasqualito Drive. Officers found the vehicle abandoned. Witnesses reported three females and one other suspect running along Pasqualito Drive and took refuge in the rear yard of a home in the 1400 block, according to the San Marino Police Department. A containment search involving officers from the San Marino, Pasadena, South Pasadena, Alhambra Police departments, including an Arcadia Police K9 and Pasadena Police helicopter helped to locate the three females. The male, described as being 18-20 years old and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, eluded capture. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN MARINO – Two suspects were arrested June 1, and one is possibly at-large, after a burglary occurred at a home, according to the San Marino Police Department.
A resident witnessed as many as three masked suspects exit his property, which is adjacent to a burglarized home in the 1700 block of Sharon Place just after 2 p.m. June 1. Officers arrived, conducted a containment search, but found nothing except a smashed window, according to the San Marino Police Department. “At this time, a vehicle was observed leaving the immediate area at a high rate of speed. Detectives attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle. The vehicle stopped and continued and a pursuit was ensued,” according to the San Marino Police Department in a written statement. Two suspects in the vehicle fled once it stopped after crashing into a stop sign at Roses Road and Segovia Avenue in San Gabriel. The driver was immediately taken into custody. A second suspect was believed to have fled east. During a containment search, a resident in the 400 block of Segovia reported a man hiding in his rear yard. With help from a Pasadena Police K9, Pasadena Police helicopter, Alhambra Police, Monterey Park Police, San Gabriel Police and South Pasadena Police, the suspect was taken into custody. Both suspects were not publicly identified. Mary Arias was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle when officers were notified by an Automated License Plate Reader just after 7:30 p.m. February 13. Arias allegedly fled from a traffic stop and led police on a chase, according to the San Marino Police Department. The 2014 blue Jeep Patriot was driven through nearby cities, such as San Gabriel, Alhambra, Monterey Park and Montebello where Arias stopped at Beverly Hospital and refused to exit the vehicle, San Marino Police said. Arias stopped outside the emergency room. “A short standoff ensued as the driver refused to exit her vehicle. Officers were able to convince the driver to voluntarily surrender and she was taken into custody without incident,” San Marino Police said in a written statement. During a search of the stolen Jeep, officers reportedly found drug paraphernalia, possible stolen mail and identification belonging to another person. Arias is expected to appear in Alhambra Municipal Court. She is being held at the Century Regional Detention Facility is lieu of $175,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN MARINO - Three suspects were arrested and a possible fourth remains at-large after fleeing during an attempted burglary Monday. A vigilant resident reported four suspicious people clad in hooded sweatshirts and donning gloves walking to the rear of a neighbor’s home in the 2700 block of Cumberland Road around 7:10 a.m. October 14. For reasons unexplained, the suspects fled after getting spooked. They ran into a black vehicle which was driven away from the neighborhood, San Marino Police said. Police witnessed the suspects fleeing and chased them until the suspects eventually crashed and rolled the vehicle over near San Gabriel Boulevard and Gainsborough Drive, San Marino Police said.
One suspect was caught quickly after the suspects fled the crashed vehicle. A multi-agency search aided by a helicopter helped nab two more suspects. Gloves and clothing shed by the fleeing suspects were confiscated. All three suspects were booked on suspicion of trespassing and attempted burglary. The juveniles were later released to the custody of their parents. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN MARINO - Police are searching for two outstanding suspects seen with a third accomplice breaking in to a home Wednesday afternoon. The third suspect was caught after fleeing the residence in the 2300 block of Robles Avenue. A brief chase ensued when officers arriving to the scene witnessed the suspect’s escape and attempted a traffic stop. A resident called 9-1-1 around 3:08 p.m. to report seeing two suspects in all black clothing trying to force open a rear door. As police arrived, one suspect fled in a dark grey Hyundai Sonata, according to San Marino Police.
The chase ended with the suspect’s arrest in the 1200 block of Sierra Madre Boulevard. Arrested was 28-year-old Rosamond man Harris Lew. He was booked on suspicion of attempted residential burglary and evading police. The outstanding suspects are described as Black. One suspect is a man about 6 feet tall. He was dressed in all black and wore red shoes. The second suspect is possibly a woman and stands around 6 feet tall. The second suspect also wore all black clothing. The outstanding suspects were last seen fleeing over a residential wall towards Montecito Drive.
