Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SIERRA MADRE - All trails leading from Sierra Madre to the Angeles National Forest are closed to the public, the City of Sierra Madre announced Monday. Sierra Madre City Manager Gabriel Engeland issued the executive order while serving as the city’s director of emergency services. Anyone found violating the executive order may be arrested and fined up to $1,000, or imprisoned up to six months. The Mt. Wilson Trail, Bailey Canyon Wilderness Park and the road leading into Chantry Flats are all closed, Sierra Madre officials said.
The Bobcat Fire crept very close to foothill homes as it burned southwest along the San Gabriel Mountains and damaged forested areas above Sierra Madre, Arcadia and Monrovia. The fire has burned nearly 110,000 acres, mostly in steep rugged terrain of the San Gabriel Mountains. It continues to make serious headway into the Antelope Valley and has destroyed at least 29 homes, fire officials said. |
