Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SIERRA MADRE - A man allegedly behind the wheel of a vehicle stolen in Pomona led police on a high-speed chase that ended with a crash in Glendale November 23, a police sergeant said. Officers attempted to stop the driver in the area of Rosemead Boulevard and Foothill Boulevard around 12:12 a.m. Monday for having at least one darkened headlight and a dealership license plate. The driver refused to stop, according to Sgt. Kyle Bailey of the Sierra Madre Police Department. “We quickly went into a pursuit. The driver ended up going onto the eastbound 210 freeway at a high rate of speed,” Bailey told SGV CityWatch. A helicopter from Pasadena Police responded and followed the driver after officers on the ground stopped the chase.
The driver eventually entered surface streets in Glendale. The driver crashed into a parked vehicle at La Crescenta Avenue and Piedmont Avenue. He ran and abandoned a female passenger, Bailey told SGV CityWatch. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and Glendale Police assisted Sierra Madre officers in a containment search that yielded the driver being taken into custody. Victor Villalobos, a 28-year-old La Verne man, was booked on suspicion of grand theft auto, evading a peace officer and hit and run. He also had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, Bailey told SGV Citywatch. The passenger was released. |
