Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SIERRA MADRE - A man was detained and placed on a 72-hour hold for a mental evaluation after making threatening comments, a police lieutenant said. Officers deemed the man a danger to himself and to others after he made threatening statements over the phone Tuesday, according to Lt. Barrientos of the Sierra Madre Police Department.
A concerned citizen who received the comments called police, Barrientos said. Police responded to the suspect’s home on South Mountain Trail Avenue near East Orange Grove Avenue around 9:45 a.m. February 12. Officers formed a plan to safely take the suspect into custody and arrived roughly an hour later to the suspect’s home. Barrientos called the suspect on his phone while announcements were made on a loud speaker. The suspect peacefully surrendered and was taken to a hospital for the evaluation, Barrientos said. No weapons were found in the suspect’s home, Barrientos said. |
