The driver of the semi was stopped at the metered light on the southbound Rosemead Boulevard on ramp to the eastbound 60 freeway around 6:30 p.m. Monday. Two men in a vehicle stopped ahead of them exited and approached the driver, according to Gina Jojola, public information officer for the East Los Angeles CHP Office. At least one of the suspects was armed, according to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. The men failed to take anything and fled the scene, Jojola said. Suspect descriptions were not readily available. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is investigating the attempted robbery. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455. No injuries were reported in the 800-foot by 500-foot building at 1703 Floraldale Avenue, which was dispatched at 6:22 p.m. Heavy smoke and fire was observed by the first engines to arrive on scene, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. The woman’s body was found just before 5 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The woman was found in lanes of Rosemead Boulevard South of Rush Street. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station arrived and summoned the California Highway Patrol to investigate. The CHP determined a hit and run collision occurred, according to the California Highway Patrol in a written statement. The victim, a Hispanic woman in her 30s or 40s, remains unidentified. She may be a transient, the CHP said. There is no suspect or vehicle description. Anyone with information on a suspect or who may have witnessed the crash is urged to call the California Highway Patrol and speak with Officer M. Sencion or Officer I. Villareal at 323-980-4600. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SOUTH EL MONTE - A suspect fled with about $4,000 in Lottery Scratchers after assaulting employees of a drive-thru dairy Saturday afternoon.
The crime was reported just after 2:30 p.m. at 1603 S. Santa Anita Avenue. The suspect attacked employees with the pepper spray before fleeing with the scratchers, according to Lt. Chris Kusayanagi of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The business robbed is Driftwood Market. Kusayanagi did not know how many employees were attacked. He didn’t believe any of the employees were hospitalized. Deputies could not obtain a good description of the suspect, because the employees’ vision was compromised. |
