Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SOUTH EL MONTE - A 17-year-old boy was identified as the teen stabbing victim found dead in the San Gabriel River Wednesday and a teen suspect was arrested.
Jeremy Sanchez was identified as the victim by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The boy’s body was found around 4:44 p.m. near Thienes Avenue and Parkway Drive, according to Los Angeles County Fire Dispatches. Sanchez was found face down by friends and the father of the boy who went missing, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Sanchez apparently did not show up to school Wednesday, prompting his father to report him missing. “It appears the victim had been stabbed and died at the scene,” the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Early Thursday, Sheriff’s Homicide detectives acted on information from a tipster, stating a friend of the victim may have been involved in the homicide. Detectives served a search warrant at the suspect’s home, found him there and eventually arrested him on suspicion of murder, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. The suspect was booked at Los Padrinos Juvenile Detention Center. The murder weapon has not been recovered. The investigation is being handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. |
