DUI checkpoint locations are based on collision statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The checkpoint will operate in an undisclosed area of town from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, September 8. Authorities want to reiterate to drivers that “DUI doesn’t just mean booze.” California has seen an increase in drug-impaired crashes, resulting from marijuana and prescription drug usage. Specially-trained deputies will examine drivers suspected of being impaired. Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. |
