The stabbing took place in the 1100 block of Thienes Avenue Friday, April 21 around 2:37 a.m. The suspect, described as a 45 to 50-year-old man, was with possibly two other suspects attempting to steal vehicle parts when a resident confronted the trio. The suspect was declared dead at the scene. One person has been detained for questioning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Firefighters arrived to investigate a reported fire at the building at 9420 Rush St. at 9:34 p.m. and ended up battling a 2-alarm fire until 10:45 p.m., according to Cpt. Norman Queen of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “It’s unknown what the products of combustion were,” Queen told SGV CityWatch. He added that investigators were sent to the scene. Initially, local broadcast news stations reported the museum itself burned, but the fire affected the building next to the museum. Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosives Detail responded as part of a routine procedure, according to Lt. Meza of the Sheriff’s Temple Station. Meza reported an estimated loss of close to $1 million. The American Military Museum, 1918 Rosemead Blvd., boasts itself as a non-profit military history museum. Opened since 1962, the museum features more than 170 military vehicles and exhibits dating back as far as 1933. The victim’s body was found on the eastbound side of the 60 freeway just after 9:30 p.m. July 26, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers and Sheriff’s deputies originally responded to the location for a reported person preparing to jump. The CHP shut down all eastbound lanes of the 60 freeway at Peck Road at 9:35 p.m. Two minutes later, traffic lanes were open after the victim was found dead, according to the CHP. Los Angeles County firefighters worked to recover the body from the overpass. No identity was available yet for the victim. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SOUTH EL MONTE - A brush fire is being extinguished near the Whittier Narrows Recreational Area, firefighters report Sunday. The fire has scorched one-half acre of Whittier Narrows near Durfee Avenue and Santa Anita Avenue. Most other fire units en route have been canceled, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire is roughly 70 percent contained. Firefighters already on scene will remain to work the fire. Flames were visible on the eastbound side of the 60 freeway at Peck Road just before 4 a.m. April 15, According to the California Highway Patrol. Los Angeles County fire fighters requested The No. 4 lane and right shoulder be blocked by the CHP while they extinguish the flames. A 45-minute Sig Alert was issued for the No. 5 lane at 4:23 a.m., the CHP said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL RIVER - Deputies are conducting a death investigation after a deceased person was found in the San Gabriel River Saturday. The body was found in the water near Peck Road and Durfee Avenue sometime before 2:30 p.m.
Deputies are working to determine if the body is in Industry Sheriff’s Station or Temple Sheriff’s Station jurisdiction, according to Sgt. Durante of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 2:27 p.m., but left the location within 18 minutes. Durante did not know if the victim is male or female, adult or minor. The victims are surrounded by about four to five feet of standing water, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. Firefighters were called at 12:23 p.m. to the 100 block of North Durfee Avenue. Firefighters initially called for an inflatable boat to aid in the rescue, but a helicopter has been summoned to hoist the victims from the tree. Deputies have just ended a neighborhood search in the area of Klingerman Street and Continental Avenue around 11:50 p.m. A search of at least one residential property yielded no suspects after the resident reported seeing someone run into their yard.
At least two were wounded by gunfire around 10:40 p.m. Preliminary information suggests that the victims were juveniles, according to Deputy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Deputies were en route to a “check the welfare call” when the gunfire erupted, Koerner said. A passerby flagged down a deputy to report gunfire erupting nearby, according to Sheriff's radio traffic. The victims’ conditions were not readily available. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 10:41 p.m. Firefighters waited four minutes to be cleared in, after which they were told that the victims were transported by a private party, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No other information is available. Firefighters were dispatched to Master Design Furniture, 2622 Chico Ave., at 12:30 a.m. The 50-foot by 200-foot building is considered a loss, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters first on scene reported heavy fire conditions throughout the building. With assistance of second-alarm personnel, firefighters knocked down flames in about one hour. No injuries were reported in the 800-foot by 500-foot building at 1703 Floraldale Avenue, which was dispatched at 6:22 p.m. Heavy smoke and fire was observed by the first engines to arrive on scene, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Knockdown was declared at 7:13 p.m. |
