Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SOUTH EL MONTE – A deputy opened fire on a Pico Rivera man after he allegedly advanced on him while armed with two large kitchen knives Sunday.
Pico Rivera man Manuel Borrego, 40, died at the scene of the shooting in the 900 block of Durfee Avenue. Deputies responding to a burglary in progress call contacted Borrego who began walking away from them. “The suspect quickly walked away from the deputies and into the street. Once in the street the suspect suddenly stopped and turned toward the deputies. The suspect started to advance on the deputies while holding two large kitchen type knives, one in each hand. That’s when a deputy involved shooting occurred,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Borrego collapsed in the street and died. Two 12-inch kitchen knives were recovered next to Borrego’s body, deputies said. |
