Police officers and paramedics attempted to save the man, but he passed away at the scene in the 1600 block of South Meridian Avenue December 16. First responders were called at 7:51 p.m., according to the South Pasadena Police Department. “During the investigation, several items of evidentiary value were located. Given the nature and scope of the investigation, the South Pasadena Police Department is working in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department,” according to the South Pasadena Police Department in a written statement. In that same statement, the South Pasadena Police Department described the unconscious male suffering from “medical distress,” but did not elaborate further. This reporter heard the response to the home on South Meridian and heard that the victim suffered a large laceration to his head. It is not yet publicly clear what led to the man’s death. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A Glendale man accused of assaulting his estranged girlfriend and who was later beaten with a golf club and stabbed to death by the victim’s mother and sister is identified. Justin Goss, 40, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The scene unfolded inside a home in the 500 block of Five Oaks Drive November 28 just before 10 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a broken front window and screaming inside the home. Upon entering through the window, they found a man stabbed and beaten, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Under further investigation it was determined that the male adult broke into the residence and attacked his estranged girlfriend. While the suspect was in the processes of beating and choking the female victim, her mother and adult sister came to her aid,” according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Police initially had trouble locating the residence through the phone call, believing the call was coming from a residence on nearby Grand Avenue. Pasadena Police also received a call, this one from the 500 block of Five Oaks Drive, according to South Pasadena Police radio traffic. The caller told dispatchers that someone was trying to kill her daughter. After officers arrived, they announced the suspect was detained. Medics were summoned for the suspect’s stab wound to an arm. After paramedics arrived, a South Pasadena officer said the suspect was deceased. The estranged girlfriend was briefly hospitalized for facial injuries. The stabbing death of a man occurred in the 500 block of Five Oaks Drive just before 10 a.m. November 28. The man was declared dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. A call of a possible intruder occurred in the 500 block of Five Oaks Drive. Dispatchers received a call from a woman needing help for a relative. The call eventually turned into someone trying to attack the occupants inside, according to South Pasadena Police radio traffic. Officers arrived and found a front window to a home was smashed. Officers earlier claimed a suspect with an arm injury was detained. Soon after, calls to Sheriff’s Homicide detectives were made. At least one person was hospitalized, according to South Pasadena Police radio traffic. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SOUTH PASADENA - The 49-year-old woman who confronted South Pasadena officers with a weapon succumbed to her injuries, Sheriff’s Homicide investigators said.
The woman, who has yet to be identified, became combative while South Pasadena officers and a Los Angeles County Mental Health Clinician while attempting to offer her help. The weapon she revealed turned out to be a pellet gun, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Police were called to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Fremont Street to check the welfare of the woman and noticed she was seizing when they arrived, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. South Pasadena Firefighters were called to tend to her medical needs. “While speaking to her, officers became aware she was possibly suffering from mental health issues, became uncooperative, and appeared to be unable to care for herself,” the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Authorities reportedly spoke to the woman for more than 90 minutes before she armed herself with the replica gun and pointed it at officers, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. No one else was injured in the shooting. The confrontation occurred in the 1100 block of Fremont Avenue around 11:49 a.m. Police were dispatched to the location for a “welfare check” when, for undisclosed reasons, a confrontation with the woman ensued, according to South Pasadena Police in a written statement. The woman was struck by gunfire an unknown number of times. The woman’s condition has not been disclosed. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are investigating. Authorities have the road closed on Fremont between Monterey Road and Oxley. |
