SOUTH PASADENA – A man died and two women were wounded after police believe a truck ran a stop sign and slammed into them in an intersection.

The collision happened July 27 at Marengo Avenue and Maple Street just before 8:30 p.m. The driver of the white Toyota Sienna truck was north on Marengo when he allegedly ran the stop sign and hit the pedestrians, according to the South Pasadena Police Department.

The three pedestrians were taken to a hospital where the still-unidentified man was eventually pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota Sienna remained at the scene.

“At this time, it remains unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision,” according to the South Pasadena Police Department in a written statement.

Anyone with information about this crash is urged to call South Pasadena Police Officer Jeff Holland at 626-403-7270.

PASADENA - A man South Pasadena Police accuse of driving at high speed was arrested Sunday night after crashing into a parked vehicle and narrowly missing a home with a family inside.

The driver, Andrew Mellow, 35, crashed at 161 Columbia St. in Pasadena just after 9:30 p.m. March 8. He was arguing with his girlfriend and decided to drive at high speed during the fight while intoxicated, according to Sgt. Bartl of the South Pasadena Police Department.
Mellow allegedly failed to negotiate a turn, hit a vehicle parked in the home’s driveway and stopped in front of the porch, Bartl said.

No one inside the home, nor Mellow or his girlfriend were injured, Bartl said.

Officers saw Mellow high-speed driver northbound at Mission Road and Fremont Avenue. They estimated Mellow was moving between 60 to 70 miles per hour, Bartl said.

Mellow was booked on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving.

SOUTH PASADENA - No one was injured after the driver of a grey or blue Toyota four-door fled a crash with a Gold Line train January 7.

The crash occurred at the crossing near Monterey Road at Pasadena Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. The vehicle was west on Monterey Road when it either stopped under the descending railroad crossing arms, or partially went through the already down gate arms, according to Sgt. Matt Ronnie of the South Pasadena Police Department.

The train sustained only a dent in the collision.

“As the train passed through, so did the car. It left,” Ronnie said.

There were apparently no witnesses to the crash. No other motorists witnessed the crash and no one on the train, except for the engineer, saw the collision, Ronnie said.

By the time officers were called to the crash, there was already a 20-minute delay, Ronnie said.

Metro officials went to the scene to determine if the train was safe to continue or if passengers needed to evacuate to another train, but it was able to continue through, according to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Twitter.
