BREAKING NEWS: Investigators Name Man Sought in Connection with Double Slaying Near Covina11/1/2022 Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Investigators have publicly named a 19-year-old suspect wanted in connection with the double murder of two men and wounding of two others at a Halloween party in unincorporated Covina.
Joel Daniel Garcia Is wanted for attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Garcia stands 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 160 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes. Garcia should be considered armed and dangerous. A large group of people gathered for the Halloween party the night of October 29 in the 17000 block of East Bellbrook Street in Vincent, which is unincorporated Covina. A fight spilled out into the driveway where the shooting occurred. One victim, identified as 20-year-old Ronnie Benitez, died at the scene. A second victim, 33-year-old Vladimir Umana, died at a hospital. Two other victims were hospitalized and their conditions are not publicly known. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Garcia is urged to call the Los Angeles County sheriffs homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. VINCENT - A mentally disturbed man is hiding in the Little Dalton Wash after allegedly pointing a weapon at people from a residential roof top. Deputies have a search in progress near Arrow Highway and Lark Ellen Avenue. The suspect may be known to deputies as a mentally disturbed person who allegedly has a history of possessing a fake gun, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Deputies responded to Arrow Highway and Vincent Avenue around 8:30 p.m. to a call of a man on a roof who allegedly pointed a weapon at someone. The man jumped off the roof and took refuge in the wash. During the setup of a perimeter search, deputies located empty shotgun shells. It is unknown if the shells were trash collected by someone or were fired.
Deputies located the suspect in the wash and identified him as the man they have had frequent contact with. He could be heard screaming over the deputy’s radio before he disappeared into a tunnel. Deputies are determining what property was stolen so it can be returned to the victim. The burglary was reported in the 17000 block of East Orkney Street. One suspect was found as far away as Azusa Avenue and Gladstone Street where he was located running in an apartment complex. VINCENT - One juvenile is in handcuffs, two more are outstanding after deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a home Tuesday. Deputies have a containment search in progress around the 17000 block of Orkney Street in the unincorporated community near Azusa. The suspects fled as deputies were arriving, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic.
The two outstanding suspects are 15 to 17 years old, both are wearing dark hoodies and jeans. One was seen wearing a hat. |
