Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VINCENT - The California Highway Patrol will conduct a pedestrian safety operation on county streets near Azusa Tuesday, March 12. The operation will take place at Lark Ellen Avenue and Gladstone Street. Officers will focus on drivers and pedestrians who fail to yield the right-of-way, or who take unsafe and illegal actions, according to officer Rodrigo Jimenez of the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. Officers dressed in plain clothes will cross the street while uniformed officers will watch for drivers and pedestrians who fail to yield, Jimenez said.
The goal of these operations is to educate the community and to help develop safe practices while driving, walking or biking. From 2005 to 2018, CHP officers in this area have investigated 429 traffic collisions involving pedestrians in unincorporated areas, the most recent was a fatality at Don Julian Road at Pamela Kay Lane in Avocado Heights in January, 2018, Jimenez said. This operation is possible through a grant funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. |
