The search, aided by a helicopter, took place near the shopping center which houses 399 Pizza Company, 2435 S. Azusa Ave. Officers believed the suspect was among people living on a nearby hillside, but the suspect was not there, according to Lt. Huston Clements of the West Covina Police Department. West Covina officers developed information that the parolee-at-large was seen in the area of Amar and Azusa Avenue and began searching just before 11 p.m., Clements said. Clements could not state why specifically the parolee was wanted. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - A domestic violence suspect will also be booked on suspicion of attempted arson and attempted murder of a police officer after allegedly attacking a female inside a home and throwing gasoline and ignited objects at police. Nicholas Isidro Misquez, 48, kept police and SWAT officers at bay for 10 hours and 34 minutes, according to Cpl. Rudy Lopez of the West Covina Police Department. The incident unfolded around 12:10 a.m. January 3 after a man called the West Covina Police Department to report a disturbance in his residence. Officers arrived to the 1300 block of West Bainbridge Avenue and found an injured woman, Lopez said. Officers learned the suspect barricaded himself in the attic after attempts to speak with him failed. “When officers approached the area of the attic, the suspect opened the attic door and began pouring gasoline out, striking the officers and then threw ignited items at them,” Lopez said in a written statement.
Several residents near the scene were evacuated. Officers deployed chemical agents into the attic after the suspect refused to speak with police. The suspect broke through the attic and climbed onto the roof, Lopez said. At 10:44 a.m. the suspect surrendered. Misquez was taken to a mental health facility for an evaluation and upon release he will be booked on suspicion of domestic violence, attempted arson and attempted murder of a police officer. he also has several outstanding warrants. His bail will be set at $450,000. |
