Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK – A 19-year-old Palmdale man was arrested, accused of causing a fiery three-vehicle crash that killed a woman Wednesday.
Noe L. Manzanarez was driving a 2022 Toyota Camry eastbound on the 210 freeway west of Azusa Avenue around 12:02 a.m. April 27 in the No. 1 lane. He crashed into the rear of a 2019 Nissan Sentra that was stopped due to heavy traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol. The still-unidentified female driver of the Nissan Sentra died at the scene. A 2007 Ford F-350 was hit on the left side by one of the vehicles in the first collision. The F-350’s driver, a Rancho Cucamonga man, was uninjured, according to the California Highway Patrol. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash. All lanes, except lane No. 5, were closed for nearly several hours during the investigation. All lanes were reopened at 3:15 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Manzanarez received minor injuries. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in the Pomona Courthouse April 29. As many as two vehicles were involved in the crash that was reported just after midnight. One vehicle was allegedly being driven in excess of 100 miles per hour before crashing, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. As officers arrived on scene to the crash, they observed one vehicle already fully-engulfed in flames, according to the California Highway Patrol. One caller reported hearing the crash from their residence. Caltrans is en route to set up a closure. The robbery, estimated at $500, was reported around 10:15 p.m. at the unidentified store in the 1300 block of South Azusa Avenue. “One of the suspects immediately brandished a handgun from his waistband and told the employee to give him the money from within the cash register. The other two suspects grabbed other store merchandise before fleeing the location,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. The store employee was not harmed. Detectives believe the suspects fled in a vehicle, but have no description. Officers were called to a welfare check at The Colony, 301 S. Glendora Ave. around 3 p.m. April 7. The male was apparently a resident, according to Lt. Brian Daniels of the West Covina Police Department. The cause of death has yet to be determined. Coroner investigators arrived by about 7 p.m. to take possession of the body, according to Aimee Earl, investigator with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. |
