Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - An investigation into a suspicious vehicle parked at a West Covina Shopping Center, Wednesday afternoon revealed a dead man inside.
The man, currently referred to as John Doe No. 153 by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, was found in the 1000 block of East Amar Road May 25 just before 5 p.m. “Although the cause of death has yet to be determined, the preliminary information and investigation Does not indicate foul play,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - A 38-year-old Covina man was arrested, accused of attempting to kidnap a six-year-old girl inside a store April 6, the West Covina Police Department said.
Christopher Kline was arrested May 19 around 9:45 a.m. He has since been booked on felony-level charges and is scheduled to appear in the Pomona Courthouse May 23, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The alleged kidnapping occurred around 6:17 p.m. April 6 at an undisclosed business in the 400 block of North Azusa Avenue. The girl was momentarily alone. Kline is accused of taking the girl by the hand and attempting to leave the store. The kidnapping attempt was unsuccessful, according to the West Covina Police department. Police did not specify if the girl resisted, or if adults intervened. “Due to the integrity of the investigation, further information regarding the suspect will not be released at this time,” West Covina Police Department said in a written statement. It is unclear if CHP officers ever located evidence tied to a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting.
WEST COVINA - California Highway Patrol officers are canvassing the westbound I-10 freeway near Vincent Avenue after a driver reported a suspect fired a weapon Friday night. The CHP responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. May 6. Freeway lanes near Azusa Avenue are also being checked, according to Officer Stephan Brandt of the California Highway Patrol. Brandt did not have a suspect description, or vehicle description. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - The California Highway Patrol will conduct a DUI/driver license checkpoint tonight scheduled for 7 p.m. at an undisclosed area in the unincorporated City of Industry and West Covina areas.
CHP officers trained in detecting impaired drivers will be equipped with hand-held breath testing devices to measure the blood alcohol concentration of suspected drunk drivers. All vehicles will be checked, traffic volume permitting. If the volume becomes too heavy, every third or fifth vehicle will be checked to assure objectivity, according to the California Highway Patrol. Funding for this checkpoint was possible through a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. |
