All lanes of Azusa Avenue will be closed from East Workman Avenue to East Garvey Avenue South until 5 a.m. Monday, June 24. The work is being done to demolish, repave and adjust the underpass roadway, according to Caltrans. The roadwork is part of the I-10 High Occupancy Vehicle Lane Construction Project. No freeway lanes will be impacted. Alternate exits for freeway motorists are North Citrus Street for westbound travelers and South Vincent Avenue for eastbound travelers, Caltrans said. The suspect stopped outside some stores at Eastland Center, 2753 Eastland Center Dr., setting off a containment and frightening shoppers. A California Highway Patrol helicopter notified West Covina police of a LoJack signal in the area of Holt Avenue and Grand Avenue around 11:38 a.m. June 21. Officers arrived three minutes later and located the vehicle, according to Sgt. Michelle Figueroa of the West Covina Police Department. The suspect was found driving at South Barranca Street and East Virginia Avenue. He refused to stop and briefly fled officers to Eastland Center, Figueroa said. Officers, aided by a helicopter, descended on Eastland where the suspect fled.
The suspect fled near Dick’s Sporting Goods and Target where officers had guns drawn.. People inside Target communicated with family via text that they were prevented from leaving the store. WEST COVINA - A pint-sized pilferer took a package from a resident’s porch June 11, police said.
The petty theft was caught on camera around 10:10 a.m. Tuesday when a boy, estimated to be as young as 12, ran out of a possible Kia Optima in the 1700 block of East Holly Oak Drive, took a small package from a home and hopped back into the car, according to Sgt. Matt Nelson of the West Covina Police Department.
The car was driving through the neighborhood and hooked a u-turn when a package was spotted, according to Ring camera footage sent to SGV CityWatch.
The boy, dressed in a burgundy shirt, black shorts and sandals, leapt from the front passenger side. The driver’s description is unknown. Taken was a small package containing vitamin supplements, Nelson said. The suspects approached the driver and demanded the vehicle. The crime was reported just before 9 p.m., according to Lt. Jeff Munn of the West Covina Police Department. The driver was uninjured, Munn said.
The three young male Hispanic suspects were dressed in dark clothing. The vehicle was last seen heading west on the I-10 freeway, Munn said. The unnamed suspects are believed to be involved in the murder of La Mirada man Dennis Bracamonte at a house party Friday, May 31 in the 300 block of North Hollow Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The shooting took place around 10:30 p.m. A fight erupted prior to the arrival of police. Officers found three victims in a rear yard. Bracamonte was declared dead at the scene. Two male juveniles received gunshot wounds to their legs, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
A female juvenile wound up at a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries. A fight erupted prior to the arrival of police and a shooting occurred, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Officers arriving to the shooting found three victims in a rear yard, one of them was declared dead. The other two, both male juveniles, received gunshot wounds to the legs, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. A female juvenile wound up at a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Earlier, There was confusion on the part of Investigator Robert Fierro from the Coroner this morning regarding the death identification in West Covina. He incorrectly interpreted the coroner case number provided.
There has been no victim identified yet and Coroner investigators have yet to arrive on scene in West Covina.
