The stabbing was reported at 2:46 p.m. in the 1900 block of West Garvey Avenue. A witness told officers the victim and suspect were arguing, then the latter stabbed the former in the shoulder, according to Lt. Ron Allen of the West Covina Police Department. Initially, officers were told of the two men emerging from some bushes and one of the men was nursing a stab wound. The victim fled on an orange bicycle, forcing officers to search for the victim, according to West Covina Police radio traffic. The uncooperative victim was taken to an area hospital. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds and wore long black hair. No clothing description was available. The suspect approached the woman and produced a black handgun, taking the woman’s black iPhone 6S, $500 and her identification around 8:45 p.m., according West Covina Police. The suspect entered a white Toyota Corolla or Camry, which fled south from the scene. The suspect is Hispanic 5 feet 10 inches tall, 140 pounds in black hat, blue buttoned shirt and denim pants. The collision occurred on Amar Road at Temple Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Only minor to moderate injuries were sustained, according to Lt. Pete Benschop of the West Covina Police Department. As of 40 minutes ago, both sides of Amar Road were closed to traffic between Temple Avenue and Shadow Oak Drive, according to an eyewitness. It was not immediately know if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, Benschop said. The solo collision occurred in the 2100 block of East Cortez Street around 5:16 a.m. July 19. Arriving officers discovered the injured mother and child who were both eventually hospitalized for their injuries, according to the West Covina Police Department. The baby died later from her injuries. It is unclear if the 32-year-old mother, a Covina woman, is still hospitalized, or back home. “The infant was in the front passenger seat, not restrained in a child safety seat,” West Covina Police said in a written statement. Police neglected to state if alcohol, drugs or speed played a role in the crash, but did add that a case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in the near future. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - Two 16-year-olds, a 15-year-old and 13-year-old were taken into custody after being caught breaking into a home near West Covina Plaza Tuesday night.
The suspects were likely caught by a resident who witnessed their efforts in the 200 block of North Walnuthaven Drive 7:50 p.m., according to Lt. Ron Allen of the West Covina Police Department. The homeowner was present during the burglary, West Covina Police said. Allen did not know how the suspects tried to enter the home. Some or all of the suspects scattered, forcing officers and a helicopter to form a containment search. Two of the suspects fled into an apartment complex, 1333 W. Garvey Ave. “It appears two of them were acting as lookouts,” Allen said. Nothing was taken from the home. All four suspects were booked on suspicion of burglary. The two older boys were taken to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall, while the remaining boys were released to their parents. The shooting took place in West Covina, but Sheriff’s deputies are handling the incident. Deputies responded to Amar Road and Lark Ellen Avenue around 10:45 a.m. regarding a shooting call, according to Sgt. William Kitchin of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The victim, only described as a Hispanic man, was taken to a nearby hospital in unknown condition. Detectives do not have a suspect or vehicle description, since the victim is not cooperating, Kitchin said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - West Covina Police arrested a suspected 7-Eleven robber and his accomplice after tracking down their four-door black Dodge Charger to the I-10 westbound at Del Mar Avenue Sunday.
One of the suspects is accused of robbing at gunpoint the 7-Eleven, 235 N. Azusa Ave., around 11:10 a.m. The masked suspect was armed and demanded money from the clerk, ultimately taking $600, according to West Covina Police radio traffic. The Charger was witnessed fleeing south Azusa Avenue and onto the westbound 10 freeway, where officers immediately began searching and located the vehicle. A West Covina officer followed the suspects until a helicopter and backup arrived before initiating a traffic stop near the Del Mar Avenue on ramp. The suspects were taken into custody without incident just after 11:30 a.m. |
