Police responded to the scene around 10:30 a.m. August 28. There is no known motive, according to Lt. Jeff Munn of the West Covina Police Department. The stabbing occurred at the Sunset Square Apartments, 745 N. Sunset Ave. The parking lot had been taped off by police, according to an eyewitness. There is no suspect in custody, Munn told SGV CityWatch, adding that the suspect is known to the victims. Munn said not everyone stabbed received hospitalization, but wasn’t certain who was transported. No other information is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA – Police announced a DUI/driver license checkpoint for Friday, August 28 to be held at an undisclosed area. The checkpoint will be held in an area statistically more prone to collisions and DUI arrests. It will be held from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday August 29, according to the West Covina Police Department. In addition to the checkpoint, additional officers will patrol West Covina streets for the remainder of August and through September. “While less people are traveling, impaired driving continues to be a problem. During the 4th of July holiday, the CHP made 738 arrests for DUI over a 54-hour period,” the West Covina Police Department said in a written statement. “Driving while impaired is illegal, whether it is alcohol, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications or marijuana. If you plan on drinking or taking medications with a “may cause drowsiness” or other driving warning label, plan on staying home.”

Buddy Saunders, 90, was last seen at 7 p.m. August 21 as he walked away from his home in the 1800 block of South Molokai Street in West Covina. Saunders was still missing as of 5 a.m. August 23, according to Lt. Tony Cortina of the West Covina Police Department. Saunders was last seen wearing a gray short sleeve T-shirt and gray jeans. He stands 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 120 to 130 pounds, has gray hair, green eyes and a full white beard. The shooting took place on the westbound I-10 freeway east of Sunset Avenue August 19. A La Puente man in his 30s was taken to County/USC Medical Center to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds, according to the California Highway Patrol in a written statement obtained by SGV CityWatch. According to eyewitness reports, the victim drove to an apartment complex in the 200 block of North Sunset Avenue. The sedan was peppered with bullet holes, both on at least the passenger side doors and in the front windshield. There is no information available on the suspect, or suspect vehicle, the CHP said. Three people were shot at El Pescador Mexican Grill, 1125 W. West Covina Parkway at Midnight. A fight erupted in the restaurant parking lot and led to gunfire, according to the West Covina Police Department.
