The man was found laying on a sidewalk by a passerby in the 900 block of West Service Avenue November 25. The man has not been publicly identified yet. Next of kin have yet to be identified, according to Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
While calling the death a homicide investigation, West Covina Police did not state if a suspect description was available. Firefighters able to stop flames from igniting and discovered the grow operation within. The house was vacant when authorities arrived, according to Lt. Keith Shishido of the West Covina Police Department.
West Covina firefighters responded to the home at 6:34 a.m. Within minutes, they called police, Shishido said. The lieutenant could not say how much marijuana was inside the home, only saying the volume was substantial. No one is detained yet, or arrested. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA – The suspect hit multiple times by police gunfire is expected to live after leading officers on a chase and allegedly ramming a pursuing officer’s patrol car, homicide detectives say. The 22-year-old suspect, on parole for carjacking, refused to yield for police who tried stop him for driving without license plates near Glendora Avenue and Michelle Street around 2:36 a.m. November 7, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The chase lasted around five minutes until the suspect entered a cul de sac on Russelee Drive north of Vine Avenue where the suspect hit a parked vehicle. “The suspect collided into a parked vehicle, then drove in reverse toward the officers, striking the patrol vehicle, at which time an officer involved shooting occurred,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
No officers were injured. The white sedan driven by the suspect is a confirmed stolen vehicle, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. A handgun allegedly carried by the suspect was recovered at the scene. Officers responding to 9-1-1 calls around 12:55 a.m. found Fernandez’s vehicle crashed into a pole, according to Lt. Travis Tibbetts of the West Covina Police Department. “It appears there was a conflict between the occupants of two different vehicles which led to the shooting,” Tibbetts said.
