Officers originally attempted to stop the driver, Marcelo Patricio Carrillo, 38, for allegedly driving without headlights in the area of Azusa Avenue and Vine Street February 6 just before 11:30 p.m. The pursuit took surface streets north into the city of Azusa. Carrillo allegedly struck a parked vehicle at the end of the pursuit and refused to exit his vehicle. West Covina officers, with assistance from the Covina and Azusa Police Departments, surrounded Carrillo’s vehicle and negotiated with him to surrender. Carrillo allegedly kept a firearm on his lap throughout the standoff, Rodgers told SGV CityWatch. Officers even used Carrillo’s mother who pleaded with him over a bull horn to surrender peacefully, but the suspect did not listen. Flash bang grenades and tear gas were used and Carrillo was flushed out and arrested. He was booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer, reckless evading and carrying a loaded firearm in public, Rodgers told SGV CityWatch. Carrillo was finally removed from the vehicle around 2:30 a.m. Carrillo is scheduled to appear in the West Covina courthouse February 8. The suspect, Ramon Gonzales, a 48-year-old La Puente man, allegedly walked in to a 7-Eleven around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to purchase cigarettes. Gonzales allegedly brandished a handgun tucked in his waistband while the cashier bagged his smokes, according to the West Covina Police Department. Gonzales allegedly demanded money from the register. After all the money was bagged, West Covina Police Sgt. Hernandez walked in during the crime in progress. The employee alerted Hernandez to the suspect as the latter fled the store. Hernandez gave chase and apprehended the suspect. Hernandez confiscated a loaded handgun and $400 in cash which was returned to the store, according to the West Covina Police Department. Gonzales was booked on suspicion of robbery, being a felon, in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. Gonzales is being held in the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina courthouse January 19. The teen is being held at a juvenile detention facility ahead of a scheduled court appearance at the Pomona Courthouse Friday, October 13. The teen, who is unnamed because of his age, is facing one count of first-degree murder in the shooting of 34-year-old Karanvir Singh, a charge filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Singh was gunned down outside Big Bob’s Liquor & Market. The teen and an accomplice are accused of stealing merchandise before the shooting. Quentin Marcus Barringer, a 19-year-old Los Angeles man, was caught after escaping police on foot. Officers initially tried to stop Barringer for reported vehicle code violations around 12:41 p.m. Friday at Valley Boulevard and South Nogales Street, according to Lt. After a brief vehicle chase, Barringer fled on foot into a neighborhood in the 2600 block of East Highcastle Street. Some residents were evacuated during a search, according to the West Covina Police Department. Barringer is being held without bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina Courthouse October 10. José de Jesus Barraza, 47, was arrested and is being held in a lieu of $900,000 bail. Barraza was a gymnastics coach and operated out of the community centers in West Covina, according to the West Covina Police Department. Authorities did not elaborate when the alleged assaults took place, or with how many potential victims. Barraza is being held in the West Covina jail ahead of scheduled appearance at the West Covina Courthouse August 8. West Covina detectives believe there may be additional victims that have yet to come forward. Keoni Smith, 22, was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony vandalism. His tirade was caught on a customer’s cell phone as he destroyed a window at Red Robin, 428 Plaza Dr., and proceeded to paint the outside with blue spray paint. The incident was reported at 11:50 a.m. Monday, June 19. “The suspect … ate at the restaurant and failed to pay for his meal. When he was confronted by management, he became irate and exited the restaurant. After exiting, he began spray painting the restaurant’s wall and shattered one of the windows,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. Smith is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail in the West Covina jail ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina courthouse Wednesday, June 21. Darwin Marin, 30, is accused of disturbing a business in the 2700 block of Eastland Center Drive. Officers were dispatched around 6:40 p.m., according to West Covina Police Community Relations Officer Alexus Napoles. The suspect was found in the Eastland Center parking lot and after a search of his property, officers located two weapons: a knife and small axe. “No one was injured. The weapons were not discovered until the officers made contact with him and conducted a search,” Napoles told SGV CityWatch. Marin was booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed dirk or dagger. He was additionally booked on an outstanding arrest warrant. According to Los Angeles County booking records, Marin appeared to have a court date of September 12. Booking records also show he was released on his own recognizance the same day. Raul Sanchez, a 45-year-old West Covina man refused to stop for officers when they attempted to pull him over July 12. He was accused of battery and attempted rape in the 200 block of North Broadmoor Avenue, according to the West Covina Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the neighborhood around 9:11 p.m.. Officers were told Sanchez was armed with a handgun. Officers located Sanchez as he was driving in the area, but he refused to stop and led police on a pursuit. The chase scurried along several SoCal freeways, including the I-10, 710 and 105 freeways, and surface streets in West Covina, Whitter and Inglewood. Sanchez returned to the 200 block of North Broadmoor and collided with the rear of a parked vehicle. Officers boxed in Sanchez who attempted to free the jammed vehicle by accelerating in reverse, kicking up sparks and smoke. “The suspect made threats that he had a gun and was not giving up. The suspect refused to exit the vehicle and West Covina SWAT team was deployed. The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 2:25 am after the deployment of chemical agents and a police K9,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. Sanchez was booked at the West Covina Jail and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. “The suspect did not possess a gun on his person when he was taken into custody. It is not known yet if there is a gun in the vehicle. The vehicle was towed and taken back to the police station and will be searched by detectives in the near future,” according to the West Covina Police Department in a written statement. Christopher Kline was arrested May 19 around 9:45 a.m. He has since been booked on felony-level charges and is scheduled to appear in the Pomona Courthouse May 23, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The alleged kidnapping occurred around 6:17 p.m. April 6 at an undisclosed business in the 400 block of North Azusa Avenue. The girl was momentarily alone. Kline is accused of taking the girl by the hand and attempting to leave the store. The kidnapping attempt was unsuccessful, according to the West Covina Police department. Police did not specify if the girl resisted, or if adults intervened. “Due to the integrity of the investigation, further information regarding the suspect will not be released at this time,” West Covina Police Department said in a written statement.
