Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - Two gangbangers were arrested May 15, during a multi-agency operation while a search warrant was being served.
The operation was carried out by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Organized Crime Task Force. Several people were detained and during the search one pound of heroin for sales was discovered, as well as one pound of methamphetamine for sales, digital scales, packaging for illegal narcotics, handguns and ammunition were seized, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Of the weapons seized, one hand gun was reported stolen, one was deemed a “ghost gun,” one of the firearms had obliterated serial numbers and the others were unregistered weapons, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The names of the two gang bangers arrested were not immediately available. Assisting the Organized Crime Task Force were the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau, Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, Sheriff’s Custody Services Division, Industry Sheriff’s Station SAO team and the California Department Correctional Rehabilitation-North Kern State Prison personnel. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - A 9-month-old baby was placed into protective custody, the child’s parents jailed after detectable amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine were found in the baby’s bloodstream Wednesday.
Erin Jill Maloney, 37, and Richard A. Rapp, 34, were arrested after hospital staff became suspicious and alerted officers to a child suffering respiratory illness just after 12:33 a.m. March 11. A search warrant was served in the couple’s home where the drugs that coursed through the baby’s body were found in plain view, according to the West Covina Police Department. The baby is in stable condition. The search warrant was served in the 800 block of South Sunset Avenue where cocaine, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located. The same contraband was found in the vehicle used to take the baby to the hospital, West Covina Police said in a written statement. Maloney and Rapp were booked on suspicion of felony child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance. Bail is set at $100,000 each for the West Covina couple who are scheduled for an appearance in Pomona Superior Court March 13. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - Two drivers were jailed Saturday in separate traffic stops and officers discovered drugs and guns during vehicle searches. A driver was stopped around 2:30 a.m. May 18, suspected of a vehicle code violation. During the investigation, an officer located a loaded handgun tucked under the driver’s seat. Pico Rivera man Vutha Ly, 34, a known gang member, was arrested, according to West Covina Police Public Information Officer Cpl. Rudy Lopez. Six hours later, another driver was stopped and suspected of a vehicle code violation. After the officer discovered Jose Galindo Anzaldo-Rosales, 27, was driving on a suspended license, the vehicle was impounded, Lopez said.
During an inventory check of Anzaldo-Rosales’ vehicle, a loaded handgun, two loaded magazines, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were discovered. The handgun was also stolen. The West Covina man was taken into custody, Lopez said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA - Three people were arrested May 15 on a variety of drug-related offenses after one of the three fled from officers and tried to break into homes. The incident began shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday when an officer on foot patrol saw three people at Woodgrove Park. One of the subjects was carrying a glass smoking pipe and baggie of methamphetamine, according to Cpl. Rudy Lopez of the West Covina Police Department. The man carrying the contraband fled into some bushes when the officer tried to detain all three suspects. Two suspects were cuffed. A perimeter search was set up to find the fleeing suspect and West Covina dispatchers began receiving calls of a attempted home break-ins in the area.
During his getaway, the suspect accidentally ran into officers holding a perimeter and he was taken into custody, Lopez said. Fleeing suspect Jose Jesus Millan, a 24-year-old West Covina man, was booked on suspicion of resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and burglary. Also arrested were 42-year-old Angie Yvette Murrieta and 38-year-old Gary Valencia, both from West Covina. Murrieta was booked on a narcotics warrant, Valencia on suspicion of methamphetamine possession. |
