WEST COVINA - A baby is dead, a mother hospitalized after the car the mother was driving slammed into a pole early Thursday.
The solo collision occurred in the 2100 block of East Cortez Street around 5:16 a.m. July 19. Arriving officers discovered the injured mother and child who were both eventually hospitalized for their injuries, according to the West Covina Police Department.
The baby died later from her injuries.
It is unclear if the 32-year-old mother, a Covina woman, is still hospitalized, or back home.
“The infant was in the front passenger seat, not restrained in a child safety seat,” West Covina Police said in a written statement.
Police neglected to state if alcohol, drugs or speed played a role in the crash, but did add that a case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in the near future.
West Covina Police is asking anyone with information to contact the West Covina Police Department at 626-939-8557.
