Walnut Man Jailed After Fleeing Fatal West Covina Crash

WEST COVINA - Detectives tracked down and jailed a suspected hit and run driver accused of leaving a bicyclist for dead last weekend.

Daniel Chavarin, 40, was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit and run, and driving under the influence, according to the West Covina Police Department.

The fatal crash occurred on Amar Road and Leanna Drive around 4:47 a.m. August 29. First responders found a woman down on the asphalt and suffering significant traumatic injuries. She died at the scene, according to the West Covina Police Department.

Ashley Kilbourne, 36, died at the scene of blunt force injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team documented the crime scene and ultimately identified a suspect.

Chavarin is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in West Covina Superior Court Tuesday, September 2, according to Los Angeles County booking records.
