The pedestrian was struck at 10:30 p.m. July 4 in the intersection of Lycoming Street and Penarth Avenue. The pedestrian was walking northbound on Penarth crossing Lycoming Street when a westbound sedan struck the victim and fled, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. The victim died days later. The gray or silver two-door sedan was last seen fleeing southbound on Lemon Avenue. Both were found inside a home in the 1500 block of Kiowa Crest Drive, May 21. They were only describe as a male Asian adult and a female Asian adult. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station initially responded around 9:52 p.m. to a report of two unresponsive people inside the home. No other details are available. The California Highway Patrol responded just after 1 a.m. to a report of pedestrian laying in the slow lane April 29. The HOV and No. 1 lanes were able to remain open for most of the investigation. By 3:47 a.m., all lanes were opened for traffic, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. It is unclear if the pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit and run driver. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR – The driver of a black sedan hooked a u-turn against a red light, appearing to antagonize a group of protesters at a Diamond Bar intersection Sunday.
The incident at Diamond Bar Boulevard and Grand Avenue was caught on cell phone video and shared via Instagram. The driver nearly struck one protestor while turning around. The driver also allegedly yelled racial epithets at the protestors during the “Stop Asian Hate” protest March 21, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “The suspect’s vehicle license plate was captured on video footage and investigators are attempting to identify the male white in his 50’s,” deputies said in a written statement. “Based on what we have learned, this is being investigated as a hate crime,” said Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva in a social media statement. The facts in the case will eventually be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing, deputies said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - A 9-year-old child emerged from a vehicle amidst a suffocating cloud of tear gas as Sheriff’s deputies attempted to corral a dangerous pursuit suspect Tuesday evening.
The child was the unwitting participant of a frenetic and dangerous chase from throughout Walnut, Chino Hills, Chino, Ontario and Diamond Bar. The suspect, 30-year-old Margaret Hassan of Pomona, refused to pull over for deputies and fled in a desperate attempt at escaping them. Deputies were reportedly surprised that the child was inside the vehicle during the entire ordeal. Hassan, the child’s mother, is accused of repeatedly using her car to rear-end another vehicle near the Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station during a road rage incident just before 3:30 p.m. March 9, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The victim flagged down deputies who located Hassan nearby. She escaped at high speed and allegedly and brazenly pushed through vehicles stopped at red lights to keep evading deputies; vehicles that bounced around like toys. Hassan continued to sideswipe, bump and crash into multiple vehicles during the pursuit until her red sedan became disabled at Diamond Bar Boulevard and Gentle Springs Lane. Hassan held deputies at bay for hours as they worked towards a peaceful resolution. The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau and Crisis Negotiation Team worked to get Hassan to surrender. As deputies surrounded the sedan with armored vehicles, the woman attempted to barricade the sedan’s interior with random belongings. The child was rescued after she stumbled out of the gassed sedan and soon after, Hassan was removed from the vehicle and detained. She was examined at a hospital before being booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment and felony evading. The rider was found injured at Diamond Bar Boulevard and Steep Canyon Road around 11:50 p.m. January 7, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Detectives want to speak to the driver of Toyota Tundra, possibly grey or silver, caught on surveillance video near the crash site, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. The Information Bureau did not clarify if the driver of the Tundra was involved in the crash or simply may have witnessed the crash or the immediate aftermath. The suspect barricaded himself in a residence in the 23700 block of Highland Valley Road January 28. Residents nearby were evacuated as a precaution, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The Information Bureau announced at 12:19 p.m. that the suspect was detained by the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic, a domestic argument led to a shooting. One victim was hospitalized. The injuries are considered not life-threatening. Firefighters were initially dispatched to the scene at 10:43 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - Investigators are seeking additional victims of a man accused of raping a woman in Diamond Bar last month.
DNA evidence collected from the assault reportedly helped to identify Joel Martinez, 37. He was pegged by detectives as the man who forcibly raped a woman who was walking to work along Brea Canyon Road near Sapphire Lane just after 4:15 a.m. December 8, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Martinez allegedly approached the woman and asked to use her cell phone. The victim denied Martinez and stated she was low on minutes on her prepaid phone, the Sheriff’s Department said. The suspect, identified as Martinez, became angry and walked away. Five minutes later the suspect allegedly returned, approached the victim from behind, put her in a chokehold and dragged her 100 feet off the roadway into some bushes where she was assaulted. The suspect allegedly also threaten the victim with a pocket knife, the Sheriff’s Department said. Martinez was identified as a suspect through DNA evidence January 5. He was located in Eastvale, a city in Riverside County, and arrested January 6. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office formally filed charges against Martinez, including one count of kidnapping with the intent to commit rape, one count of forcible oral copulation and one count of attempted forcible rape, the Sheriff’s Department said. Martinez is being held in lieu of $1.2 million bail. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - A motorcyclist was killed after colliding with the rear of a stalled car on the eastbound 60 freeway just west of Grand Avenue Friday night.
Reports from the scene indicated a Dodge Charger stalled in the No. 1 lane. The motorcyclist struck the rear of the Charger around 9:40 p.m. and landed an estimated 20 feet onto the roadway, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. A white van reportedly struck the downed motorcycle and rider who landed in front of the stalled Charger. By around 11 p.m., authorities had all eastbound lanes of the 60 freeway just west of Grand Avenue shut down, as well as the flyover from the northbound 57 freeway to the eastbound 60 freeway, according to the CHP. By 1:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities had all lanes open after the crash was cleared and the coroner removed the body, according to the CHP. |
