Deputies responded to a neighborhood around 1:30 p.m. March 5 to at least one report of a man acting suspiciously in the 2000 block of Crarie Street. The suspect fled southbound towards Pasadena, According to Lt. Sanchez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Altadena Station. Pasadena Police assisted deputies with searching for the suspect. Nearby Marshall Fundamental School, 990 N. Allen Ave., was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution. The Pasadena Police Department released a statement, saying that students were not in imminent danger.
The search was ended roughly two hours later without a suspect in custody, Sanchez told SGV CityWatch. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man wearing black pants and no shirt, Sanchez said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is continuing to investigate the shooting death, which occurred around 1 p.m., in the 2400 block of Canyada Avenue. Deputies responding to a gunfire call found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso near Canyada Avenue and Figueroa Drive. The victim was reportedly driving when an unknown suspect fired upon him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The victim, only described as a 45-year-old Black man, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, deputies said. The suspect fired multiple rounds in the 2000 block of Canyada Avenue and reportedly drove away.
Deputies focused on a house where the suspect was thought to be. With the help of the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau, the home was cleared. No suspect was found. The shooting occurred on West Figueroa Drive near North Canyada Avenue just after 1 p.m. February 16, according to the Los Angeles county fire department. The sheriffs department has yet to publicly provide a suspect description, if one exists. A press release issued by the sheriffs department stated the incident occurred at 2 p.m. However, Los Angeles County Firefighters responded at 1:05 p.m. and a social media post from Altadena deputies warning of a road closure on Figueroa was posted at 1:32 p.m. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - Deputies confiscated a large amount of marijuana product, cash, three guns and 11 people were arrested during a search warrant operation at two dispensaries, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The arrests and seizure of the guns and contraband took place within the last two weeks along Fairoaks Drive. One of the guns taken was later discovered stolen, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Marijuana,marijuana edibles and vape products were taken, the Sheriff’s Department said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team and county firefighters rescued a man who slipped, fell and injured himself in Eaton Canyon Saturday. The 32-year-old victim was located 50 feet over the side of the Mt. Wilson Toll Road one-quarter mile up from the trailhead. He suffered back pain, leg pain and a head laceration, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Altadena Station.
Rescuers responded around 7:15 a.m. November 30. Firefighters hiked in to locate the victim. After the hiker was located, an Altadena Mountain Rescue Team member was lowered to the victim to begin treatment. A Los Angeles County Fire Department Helicopter hoisted the hiker who was flown to Huntington Memorial Hospital. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - Four residential burglaries, a petty theft from an unlocked vehicle and a vehicle burglary were reported in a nearly 12-hour period October 29, deputies said. The crimes were publicized in the Altadena Sheriff’s Station weekly crime blotter. A residential burglary occurred in the 1700 block of East Mendocino Street between 7:10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A suspect or suspects entered the home through unknown means. It is unclear what was stolen, deputies said. A residential burglary was reported in the 3600 block of Monterosa Drive between 10:55 a.m. and 8:35 p.m. A rear sliding glass door was shattered to gain entry. Jewelry was taken from the home in a yellow pillow case, deputies said. Another residential burglary was reported this one any 2000 block of Holliston Avenue between Noon and 3:30 p.m. Unknown suspects shattered a window and were able to disable a burglary alarm. It is unknown what was stolen.
A residential burglary was reported in the 1300 block of East Woodbury Road. between 2:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Jewelry was reported stolen from the home after an unknown number of suspects shattered a rear window. A black wallet containing credit cards was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 2500 block of East Washington Boulevard between 5:50 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. deputies said. Unknown suspects burglarized a vehicle in the 900 block of East Woodbury Road Between 6:40 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. A window was shattered and a black messenger bag, brown Louis Vuitton wallets, cash and personal documents were stolen. The fire that burned nearly 11 acres of light to medium brush near Loma Alta Drive and Chaney Trail September 22 has been “completely extinguished,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a Wednesday night message. The U.S. Forest Service was aided by Los Angeles County Firefighters in fighting the flames, which were first reported around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. While firefighters and aircraft worked on the fire, Los Angeles County Deputies worked to evacuate patrons of Millard Trail Camp north of the brush fire.
120 personnel were assigned to the brush fire. Fire crews were said to have planned on breaking down their staging area at Millard Trail Camp with the area expected to be open by 6 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE - 5:01 p.m.: The brush fire above Altadena has burned roughly 10 acres. The majority of the fire has been stopped, said the U.S. Forest Service. Firefighters are building containment lines to suppress remaining active flames. Millard Trail Camp, which is above the brush fire, is under mandatory evacuation, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. ALTADENA - A two-acre brush fire is burning uphill near Loma Alta Drive and Chaney Trail, Los Angeles County Firefighters report. A full brush response including four helicopters have been sent to battle the fire, which was reported around 3:26 p.m. September 22. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are also on scene and are working to evacuate patrons at a campground in the area of the fire. The woman was discovered near a dirt road leading to a water tank in Las Flores Canyon. There were no signs of foul play. The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team was called to locate the tent around 8:52 p.m. Friday, July 19, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The cause of death is not yet known. It is unclear if the woman was transient. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team rescued an 11-year-old girl after she became ill due to heat exposure on the Mt. Wilson Toll Road. Rescuers were called around 11:25 a.m. to the Pinecrest Trailhead on the Mt. Wilson Toll Road Sunday, July 14. The girl was found 250 yards from the trailhead where rescuers took the Long Beach girl to an ambulance. The ambulance transported the girl, and a parent, to a nearby hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Altadena Station.
Rescuers cleared the area and transported the girl on about one hour. “This family definitely learned an important lesson today. We hope everyone can learn how quickly someone can become affected by exercising or even walking in the high heat we are currently experiencing,” deputies said. |
