Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team and county firefighters rescued a man who slipped, fell and injured himself in Eaton Canyon Saturday. The 32-year-old victim was located 50 feet over the side of the Mt. Wilson Toll Road one-quarter mile up from the trailhead. He suffered back pain, leg pain and a head laceration, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Altadena Station.
Rescuers responded around 7:15 a.m. November 30. Firefighters hiked in to locate the victim. After the hiker was located, an Altadena Mountain Rescue Team member was lowered to the victim to begin treatment. A Los Angeles County Fire Department Helicopter hoisted the hiker who was flown to Huntington Memorial Hospital. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - Four residential burglaries, a petty theft from an unlocked vehicle and a vehicle burglary were reported in a nearly 12-hour period October 29, deputies said. The crimes were publicized in the Altadena Sheriff’s Station weekly crime blotter. A residential burglary occurred in the 1700 block of East Mendocino Street between 7:10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A suspect or suspects entered the home through unknown means. It is unclear what was stolen, deputies said. A residential burglary was reported in the 3600 block of Monterosa Drive between 10:55 a.m. and 8:35 p.m. A rear sliding glass door was shattered to gain entry. Jewelry was taken from the home in a yellow pillow case, deputies said. Another residential burglary was reported this one any 2000 block of Holliston Avenue between Noon and 3:30 p.m. Unknown suspects shattered a window and were able to disable a burglary alarm. It is unknown what was stolen.
A residential burglary was reported in the 1300 block of East Woodbury Road. between 2:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Jewelry was reported stolen from the home after an unknown number of suspects shattered a rear window. A black wallet containing credit cards was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 2500 block of East Washington Boulevard between 5:50 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. deputies said. Unknown suspects burglarized a vehicle in the 900 block of East Woodbury Road Between 6:40 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. A window was shattered and a black messenger bag, brown Louis Vuitton wallets, cash and personal documents were stolen. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - A woman died in a rollover crash that injured as many as five others October 15. The collision occurred at East Woodbury Road near Fiske Avenue just before Noon. A black Ford Escape and a silver Honda Odyssey collided. The Escape overturned, while the Odyssey sustained major front end damage, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Firefighters arrived on scene and found the woman trapped inside one of the vehicles. The woman died at the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Five other people received minor injuries: two children under 3 in one vehicle were taken to an area trauma center. In the second vehicle, a woman and child were hospitalized while two other children older than 3 ended up without being transported, Rangel said. The circumstances surrounding the collision have yet to be publicly shared by the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - Authorities have reopened the mountain areas affected by Sunday’s Lowe Fire. The fire that burned nearly 11 acres of light to medium brush near Loma Alta Drive and Chaney Trail September 22 has been “completely extinguished,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a Wednesday night message. The U.S. Forest Service was aided by Los Angeles County Firefighters in fighting the flames, which were first reported around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. While firefighters and aircraft worked on the fire, Los Angeles County Deputies worked to evacuate patrons of Millard Trail Camp north of the brush fire.
120 personnel were assigned to the brush fire. Fire crews were said to have planned on breaking down their staging area at Millard Trail Camp with the area expected to be open by 6 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE - 5:01 p.m.: The brush fire above Altadena has burned roughly 10 acres. The majority of the fire has been stopped, said the U.S. Forest Service. Firefighters are building containment lines to suppress remaining active flames. Millard Trail Camp, which is above the brush fire, is under mandatory evacuation, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. ALTADENA - A two-acre brush fire is burning uphill near Loma Alta Drive and Chaney Trail, Los Angeles County Firefighters report. A full brush response including four helicopters have been sent to battle the fire, which was reported around 3:26 p.m. September 22. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are also on scene and are working to evacuate patrons at a campground in the area of the fire. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - A long-dead woman was located after reports of a foul odor coming from inside a tent Friday night. The woman was discovered near a dirt road leading to a water tank in Las Flores Canyon. There were no signs of foul play. The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team was called to locate the tent around 8:52 p.m. Friday, July 19, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The cause of death is not yet known. It is unclear if the woman was transient. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team rescued an 11-year-old girl after she became ill due to heat exposure on the Mt. Wilson Toll Road. Rescuers were called around 11:25 a.m. to the Pinecrest Trailhead on the Mt. Wilson Toll Road Sunday, July 14. The girl was found 250 yards from the trailhead where rescuers took the Long Beach girl to an ambulance. The ambulance transported the girl, and a parent, to a nearby hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Altadena Station.
Rescuers cleared the area and transported the girl on about one hour. “This family definitely learned an important lesson today. We hope everyone can learn how quickly someone can become affected by exercising or even walking in the high heat we are currently experiencing,” deputies said. Noon: A vehicle burglary occurred in the 1200 block of Sonoma Drive. The vehicle was entered by unknown means. Vehicle registration and an insurance card were taken. 8:00 p.m.: A petty theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred in the 2200 block of North Mar Vista Avenue. A brown Ferragamo wallet and currency were taken. 9:00 p.m.: A petty theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred in the 2200 block of North Mar Vista Avenue. A black/white Jansport backpack, silver calculator and a green notebook were taken. Wednesday, July 3 3:00 p.m.: A vehicle was reported stolen from the 1600 block of New York Drive. The vehicle is a red 1993 Chevrolet S10. Thursday, July 4 Midnight: A petty theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred in the 1200 block of Morada Place. A black portfolio, black socks, pink sunglasses and black Kate Spade prescription glasses were taken. Saturday, July 6 6:30 a.m.: A vehicle burglary occurred in the 500 block of West Woodbury Road. The vehicle was entered by unknown means. A gold necklace, gold St. Jude pendant, white gold wedding bands and engagement ring were taken. An 18-year-old Black man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. A Black juvenile was also hospitalized after being wounded in the lower extremities, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect, only described as a Hispanic man, opened fire on the two victims from inside a vehicle in the 2100 block of Santa Anita Avenue June 10 around 4:39 p.m. A vehicle description is unknown.

Firefighters were called to two gunshot victims just before 4:40 p.m. in the 2100 block of Santa Anita Avenue. Both patients were transported to an area hospital, according to Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Sgt. Dirk Blansfield of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. The shooting unfolded outside of a residence. Descriptions of a suspect and suspect vehicle were not available, Blansfield said.
