First responders were sent to North Donna Beth Avenue south of East Renwick Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. December 6. At least two victims were found. It is unclear if anyone else was wounded, according to dispatch supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A unidentified male juvenile died after being taken to a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. It is unclear if a suspect is in custody, or if investigators have identified any suspects. The shooting is the latest in continuing violence in a neighborhood that saw a young driver shot while eastbound on Newburgh Street from North Donna Beth Avenue just two days prior. That driver, who still remains unidentified, was shot at least once and crashed while fleeing at high speed through the neighborhood. Strangely enough, this December 6 shooting occurred likely in the same area where the driver was shot December 5. Transient Gerardo Vega, 50, suffered from head trauma, a stab wound of the neck and gunshot wound of the abdomen, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Vega’s death was ruled a homicide. A passerby en route to work discovered Vega down and un responsive at the Azusa Rockery, 1350 Mountain View Cir., around 7:43 a.m. June 3. It is not publicly clear if Sheriff’s Homicide investigators identified a suspect. Azusa Rockery is a half-acre geology interpretive park nestled in an area north of an industrial complex and is adjacent to the San Gabriel River Bike Path. Ryan Serna, 28, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. His place of death was a sidewalk. The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of North San Gabriel Avenue near West 3rd Street. Azusa Police officers responded to a report of gunfire and found Serna wounded from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Serna died at the scene. It is not publicly clear if Sheriff’s Homicide investigators have identified a suspect, or if a suspect is in custody. A coroner exam for Serna has yet to be scheduled. The shooting unfolded at 7:44 p.m. in the 400 block of South Azusa Avenue just north of Gladstone Street July 14, 2019. John Medrano, 24, was struck by gunfire while walking with a teen boy. The suspect is believed to be a Sentinel Boys gang member. The trigger man exited a black 2017 Toyota Corolla 4-DR, opened fire, got back in the car and fled, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Medrano was hospitalized, but later died. The boy was uninjured, Homicide investigators said. The Corolla was driven away eastbound on Gladstone Street. A witness to the shooting helped investigators develop the composite sketch. The suspect is only described as a Hispanic man in his 20s and stands 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. Police responded to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of East Hollyvale Street before 4:30 a.m. December 25 and discovered the wounded man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Firefighters were called to the scene at 4:27 a.m. to a gunshot victim but did not transport a victim, according to dispatch supervisor Michael Pitman of the Los Angeles county fire department. The victim died at the scene, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are in route to assist Azusa Police with an investigation. The newborn was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina after being discovered. The newborn was declared dead by doctors at 4:37 p.m. March 7. It is yet unclear if the mother has been released from hospital care yet, or if she has been arrested, or if charges are pending.
Available supervisors at the Azusa Police Department were unable to answer questions regarding the investigation’s status. Azusa Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at 3:43 p.m. to the 600 block of East Fifth Street and found a lifeless newborn in a dumpster to the very rear of an apartment complex. Firefighters and policer attempted to revive the child. According to NBC4, a resident witness the mother walking away from the dumpster, a trash can in hand and a large amount of blood nearby. It is unclear if the newborn was dead before or after being found in the dumpster. Officers arrived first and found the lifeless body of a newborn girl. Despite efforts by police, firefighters and doctors, the baby was declared dead at 4:37 p.m., according to Lt. Robert Chivas of the Azusa Police Department. NBC 4 reports a resident saw the mother walking back from the dumpster, carrying a trash can and that there was a large amount of blood nearby. Police were called at 3:43 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 600 block of East Fifth Street. The newborn was found in the dumpster behind the apartment complex, according to Lt. Robert Chivas of the Azusa Police Department. “The newborn was motionless. There were no signs of life,” Chivas said. The newborn was treated by both Azusa Police officers and Los Angeles County Firefighters. The newborn was taken to an area hospital where doctors could not revive her and she was declared dead at 4:37 p.m., Chivas said.
No suspect has been identified and remains out of custody. The lieutenant could not comment on who made the 9-1-1 call or who found the child first. Rockvale Avenue from Lee Place to East Fifth Street remains blocked during a Homicide investigation.
