The fire spread to the attic above two units in the 1200 block of Wanamaker Drive around 8:11 a.m., March 1. The fire was extinguished roughly 30 minutes later, according to firefighters at the scene. Firefighters report one patient at the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - A man armed with a shotgun or rifle has taken refuge in the rear yard of a home after firefighters encountered him while fighting a grass fire. The suspect is in a yard at 4126 North Morada Ave. Firefighters had to briefly evacuate after finding the man with the weapon, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Firefighters were dispatched to the vegetation fire inside a large field at 9:21 p.m. September 19 near the 300 block of North Vincent Avenue. The fire threatened several homes, which firefighters provided structure protection while taking a defensive posture from the suspect.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are assisting Covina Police with containing the suspect and have K9 units en route. Most of the fire has been knocked down, firefighters said. Up to five vehicles are involved in the crash, which was dispatched to firefighters at 8:46 a.m. June 30.
Four of the six injured have already been transported to area hospitals. The people killed in the crash died at the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. COVINA - A 1-year-old horse is down due to a possible injury in the Covina hills Monday. The 1-year-old male horse possibly suffered a back injury in the 2300 block of Cameron Avenue. An urban search and rescue team, as well as a Disaster Animal Response Team, is on scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Police were called to the home around 4:49 p.m. in the 200 block of East Center Street. When they entered the home, police discovered the bodies, according to Sgt. John Zumwalt of the Covina Police Department. The victims’ identities were unknown. How the victims died was not disclosed.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA – A woman found half-naked and with blood splatters on her body is connected to the discovery of a dead child found in a burning townhouse Friday morning. The child was discovered after officers questioned the woman found running down the road in the 300 block of North Second Avenue, January 11 around 3:30 a.m. The woman was uncooperative when questioned, according to the Covina Police Department. A patrol sergeant found the woman, according to Sgt. David Rodriguez of Covina Police.
While detectives are not yet certain, they believe the woman to be the child’s mother, Rodriguez said.
The woman made statements alluding to a victim, but officers could not get a residence from her, Covina Police said. Officers finally learned the woman’s address and upon arrival, found visible flames from the second-floor unit and soon discovered a dead child within the townhouse, located at 141 E. Italia St. Covina officers summoned firefighters, who arrived on scene at 3:47 p.m. and knocked down flames four minutes later, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department representative. The woman is still being evaluated, Rodriguez said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CHARTER OAK – One female juvenile was injured in a rollover crash that took the life of the adult driver at Charter Oak High School Thursday morning.
The silver truck rolled over and came to rest on the front lawn of Charter Oak High School, 1430 E. Covina Blvd., around 7:35 a.m. The driver died at the scene, according to Lt. Trevor Gaumer of the Covina Police Department. Preliminary information suggests the driver suffered a medical emergency, which caused the crash, Gaumer said. The girl was transported to an area hospital after being extracted from the truck with the jaws of life, Gaumer said. Eastbound Covina Boulevard near the high school is blocked during the collision investigation. Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at a two-story apartment complex at 1108 W. San Bernardino Road at 2:52 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Firefighters knocked down fire on the first floor at 3:09 p.m., but have asked for second-alarm units to fight fire on the second floor with fire possibly burning in the second floor.
