The fatal crash occurred at 9:28 p.m. November 23, minutes after an occupant of the stopped silver Chevrolet Cruze called authorities and said their son fled the vehicle with the car keys, according to the California Highway Patrol. A white pickup truck may have struck the victim, the CHP said. The victim’s family was reportedly in the vehicle and stopped on the right shoulder for an unknown reason before the victim fled. The victim’s mother was apparently behind the wheel of the Cruze, according to the CHP. Authorities had all lanes shut down at 9:39 p.m. The No. 1 and 2 lanes were opened at 10:07 p.m. and all lanes were cleared by 11:37 p.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - At least one person died and no one was transported after a multi-vehicle crash early Thursday.
The collision occurred between three vehicles on the northbound 57 freeway transition road to the eastbound 60 freeway just before 12:30 a.m. One person has died at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The north 57 transition road to the east 60 remains closed, as well as the No. 3 and 4 lanes of the east 60 freeway to the south 57, the CHP said. The SUV with an unknown number of adults and children struck the center diver just before 1:30 p.m. At least one occupant was partially ejected, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Ford Explorer rolled multiple times and came to rest near the divider. The children in the SUV were being pulled out of the overturned vehicle, according to California Patrol Traffic Logs. One victim received a laceration to the head, another received an arm injury. Two people in the speeding vehicle were killed after it hit the apartment unit in the 23600 block of Golden Springs Drive around 11:40 p.m., according to Lt. Avola of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. There was one person inside the apartment unit who apparently was uninjured, Avola said. One of the four total patients was hospitalized,while a second refused medical help, according to Dispatch Supervisor Jeremy Stafford of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The vehicle crashed through brush and some trees before hitting the apartment, Avola said. It is unclear if alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving played a factor. Javier Jose Velasquez Grimaldo, 24, of Rowland Heights, was found lifeless on Brea Canyon Road near the southbound 57 freeway around 4:20 a.m. August 27. Grimaldo was southbound on the 57 freeway in a 2004 Mazda 3 when, for unknown reasons, he veered left, struck the center divider and rolled his vehicle, which came to a rest on the right shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. Grimaldo exited his vehicle and allegedly tried to force his way into a parked big rig on the right shoulder, the CHP said. The driver of the big rig, an Apple Valley man, fled in fear of his life. The rig, which was still running, began moving with Grimaldo clinging to it. He then either jumped, or fell from the big rig and onto Brea Canyon Road, the CHP said. An autopsy has yet to be performed. The CHP is trying to determine if the body is connected to a collision that occurred around the same time. A vehicle reportedly struck the divider and sped across lanes before rolling down an embankment. The body was discovered around 4:10 a.m., according to Officer Christian Cracraft of the California Highway Patrol. Los Angeles County Firefighters were called to an unknown medical call at the location at 4:20 a.m. Firefighters were told of a body in lanes of traffic, according to Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies arrested/cited another driver, but for operating a vehicle on a suspended/revoked license and issued a citation to another driver, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. The checkpoint was held at Diamond Bar Boulevard and Highland Valley. The checkpoint will take place in an undisclosed area of town, chosen based on DUI arrests and collision statistics, while simultaneously ensuring officer and public safety, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar Walnut Station. The checkpoint will end at 2 a.m. Saturday, August 18. The operation is aimed at curtailing injury and death along streets frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes often occur, deputies said. Deputies will be looking for drivers and motorcycle riders who violate traffic laws. In the last three years, collisions have taken the lives of 1,332 people across Los Angeles County, according to data cited by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “California collision data reveals that primary causes of motorcycle-involved crashes include speeding, unsafe turning and impairment due to alcohol and other drugs by both riders and drivers alike,” deputies said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - A man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a domestic fight in the middle of a busy intersection Tuesday.
A woman was injured in the domestic fight, which took place inside a vehicle, and required hospitalization, according to Lt. David Buckner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. The fight began around 2:30 p.m. inside of a vehicle. The suspect then fled the before deputies arrived, setting off a search, but the suspect was quickly found and arrested, said Lt. Yolanda Figueroa of the Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. While deputies were reluctant to provide how the woman was injured, passersby reported blood stains on the driver-side door. Firefighters arrived to a reported traffic collision at the intersection with a reported unconscious occupant. Firefighters arrived at 2:36 p.m. and transported the occupant to a local hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies had a portion of the intersection shut down until around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday night before reopening lanes. Deputies are still investigating. Figueroa declined to give the booking information for the suspect arrested, citing the ongoing investigation. No other suspects are outstanding. |
