Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SIERRA MADRE - A coffee shop was red-tagged Monday morning after a driver accidentally accelerated in reverse and crashed through the storefront, a Sierra Madre police sergeant said.
The crash happened at Bean Town, 45 N. Baldwin Ave., just after 10:30 a.m. August 10. The driver was backing into a parking spot at a neighboring business and accidentally hit the gas pedal. The SUV jumped the curb and hit the coffee shop, said Sgt. Charles Kamchamnan of the Sierra Madre Police Department. A paramedic was nearby and provided aid to the older driver until Sierra Madre firefighters and paramedics arrived to treat her, Kamchamnan told SGV CityWatch. The driver was hospitalized as a precaution. None of the employees inside the coffee shop were injured. Bean Town was red-tagged due to the extent of damage, Kamchamnan told SGV CityWatch. |
