Police were called to a home on East Pamela Road just before 4 p.m. The victim was on Facebook and believed she was receiving legitimate financial advice from a friend regarding a grant offered to retired people, according to the Arcadia Police Department.
The victim somehow gave $5,000 to the suspect, but later determined her friend’s account was likely hacked and the grant was a scam, Arcadia Police said. The investigation is ongoing. Surveillance footage caught the man and woman committing grand theft between 11:47 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. at Victoria’s Secret, 400 S. Baldwin Ave., according to the Arcadia Police Department.
The first suspect is a male Black in his 30s and stands 5 feet 10 inches tall. He wore a green and white t-shirt and blue denim pants. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - Two men made off with $10,900 in sunglasses from a store at Santa Anita Mall April 22. Officers were called to Sunglass Hut, 400 S. Baldwin Ave., around 7:41 p.m. to a report of grand theft. Surveillance footage showed two men taking the sunglasses, Arcadia Police said. The suspects are two Black men, both 20 to 24 years old with thin builds.
One suspect wore a black hooded sweatshirt with “Self Love” written on the back. The second suspect wore a blue hooded sweatshirt with “NYC” written on the front, Arcadia Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - Police are investigating a crime in which a man stole $45,000 from a victim he was dating and convinced to open a bank account. Police took a report Saturday, April 27 from the victim who reported being influenced by the man to open a checking account and deposit a large sum of money, Arcadia Police said. The suspect helped the victim open the account and began withdrawing cash without the victim’s knowledge, Arcadia Police said.
The suspect is only described as a 58-year-old Temple City man. He was still outstanding at the time the police weekly police activity report was written April 30. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - Another day, another thief was followed with the help of a GPS tracker after the suspect took a package Tuesday morning. The suspect took a package from the area of Huntington Drive and Michillinda Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. April 23. The suspect refused to stop for officers once found and evaded them, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The suspect in a grey 2015 four-door Kia Optima fled from officers at high speed, sometimes reaching 90 miles per hour on surface streets, according to Arcadia Police radio traffic.
Due to the unsafe speed, officers cancelled the pursuit near Rosemead Boulevard and Del Mar Boulevard in Pasadena, Arcadia Police said. When the GPS tracker became stationary, officers found the abandoned suspect vehicle near Del Mar Boulevard and Craig Avenue in Pasadena, Arcadia Police said. The vehicle was actually located in the 2100 block of San Pasqual Street. The stolen package was recovered and the suspect outstanding. Officers were called to investigate the grand theft just after 9:30 p.m. A store employee witnessed three Black women and one Black man take the merchandise, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Police did not state if a getaway vehicle was seen fleeing the location. Two men stole more than $1,550 worth of seafood from Arcadia Supermarket, 654 W. Duarte Rd. Officers were called to the supermarket February 24 to investigate, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The suspects are two Asian men.
One suspect is 35 to 45 years old, has black hair, a mustache and wore blue jeans, a grey long-sleeve shirt and black eye glasses. The second suspect is 40 to 45 years old. He stands 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds and has a dark complexion. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - The FBI is now investigating a gutsy hacking case in which one customer was duped into wiring $52,000 to the suspect, believing an outstanding invoice was being paid.
The incident was reported to officers November 20. The suspect hacked into the email of the owner of KGS Electronics, 418 E. Live Oak Ave. “An investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) hacked into the owner’s email and instructed customers to pay their outstanding invoices by using a fraudulent wire transfer method,” Arcadia Police said in a written statement. It is unclear how many other victims there are and how much money they may have lost. The $52,000 payment went to an unknown account in Mexico. Francisco Gutierrez, 18, was arrested June 2 after taking a bait package equipped with a GPS tracker from the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia Police said. Police received notification that the package was moved around 12:16 a.m. Police coordinated a response and identified the location of the package. Gutierrez was located, detained by officers and found to be in possession of the tracker. Arcadia Police has employed a proactive program to combat an increase of package thefts by deploying bait packages equipped with a GPS tracker, placing them in neighborhoods. Gutierrez was booked on suspicion of burglary. |
