The crash occurred around 3:37 p.m. January 1 near 142 N. Azusa Ave. It appears the driver was northbound on Azusa Avenue and crashed into the occupied vehicle that was parked along the west curb line, according to Sgt. Brandon Bailey of the Azusa Police Department. “The other two people in a parked car have a minor injuries,” Bailey told SGV CityWatch. It is too early to tell what led to the crash, Bailey told SGV CityWatch. The California Department of Transportation is replacing the existing North Fork San Gabriel River bridge. The construction, which is scheduled to finish in Winter of 2021 or 2022, will run Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Caltrans. The Super 10 trucks will haul road backfill from Vulcan Materials! 16001 E. Foothill Blvd. in Irwindale, East on Foothill, North on Todd Avenue, East on Sierra Madre Avenue and North on Highway 39, Caltrans said. The bridge is being built 40 feet south the existing one, which will be demolished, Caltrans said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A Hispanic man in his 20s died near the on ramp to the eastbound 210 freeway Thursday afternoon, CHP and coroner officials said.
The man was found just before 3:18 p.m. April 9. He was declared dead on arrival, according to Dispatch Supervisor Troy of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A Sig Alert for the on ramp from Vernon Avenue to the eastbound 210 freeway was initiated at 3:53 p.m. Thursday. The Sig Alert was canceled at 1:14 a.m. Friday, according to Officer Patrick Kimball of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. The victim’s name has not been publicly revealed. Next of kin have yet to be notified, according to Lt. Nani Cholakians of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Confusion persists as to which agency is actually handling the investigation. In interviews conducted Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol stated the death was an Azusa Police matter. An Azusa Police supervisor soon after stated that the death was a CHP matter. In a brief interview Friday morning, Kimball stated that the CHP is investigating the death. The cause of death has yet to be revealed. Wednesday night, police were called to a reported shooting victim at that same location after 10 p.m. No victim had been found. It is unclear if Wednesday night’s call and Thursday‘s discovery of a dead man are connected. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A motorcyclist was taken to a trauma center Thursday afternoon and died after colliding with a sedan, an Azusa Police Lieutenant said.
The collision occurred around 2:32 p.m. February 20 at the intersection of Arrow Highway and Vincent Avenue. A motorcycle rider was heading eastbound on Arrow Highway and possibly lost control of his motorcycle, potentially heading into opposing traffic where the rider collided head-on with a sedan, according to Lieutenant Jorge Sandoval of the Azusa Police Department. Azusa police publicized news of the riders death around 5:37 p.m. Speed may have played a factor in the crash, Sandoval said. The intersection remains closed. Eastbound Arrow Highway at Aton in Irwindale remains blocked, as well as northbound Vincent Avenue at Chadmont Street. Westbound traffic at Burwood Avenue is also blocked. The collision occurred just before 1:30 PM January 27 in the 600 block of North Azusa Avenue. The bicyclist was taken to a hospital, according to Sergeant Bailey of the Azusa police department. Bailey did not know the rider’s current condition. Azusa Avenue from Sixth Street to Foothill Boulevard remains closed for an investigation, Bailey told SGV CityWatch. The collision occurred outside of Max’s Mexican Cuisine, 635 N. Azusa Ave. Bailey does not believe the collision was a hit and run. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The driver killed after his silver truck overturned in Azusa Sunday afternoon was identified. 21-year-old Eduardo Perez from Glendora was identified by Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Perez died from blunt force traumatic injuries. His death was ruled accidental. The crash occurred at 819 N. Citrus Ave. near Citrus College just after 3:36 p.m. August 4. The victim was declared dead at the scene at 3:42 p.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A large memorial was set up for Perez at the crash scene, which was still marked with orange spray paint Wednesday. Candles still flickered in the morning sun. The silver truck appeared to be headed west on Foothill Boulevard and took the curve in the road towards southbound Citrus Avenue when it struck the metal guard rail and overturned. Flores was unaware of any other injuries. Police are conducting a collision investigation and the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Citrus Avenue will remain closed until further notice. Trains in both directions have been stopped and bus bridges are provided for passengers, according to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The pedestrian was hit near the Virginia Avenue crossing around 12:47 p.m. July 31. The pedestrian was not near the roadway when struck, according to Ramon Montenegro, public information officer with the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at 12:56 p.m. One person on the train experienced difficulty breathing and required help, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau have been called to the scene, which is standard operating procedure for unnatural deaths, Montenegro said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - One vehicle rolled over in a three-vehicle crash at North Pasadena Avenue and East Foothill Boulevard Tuesday morning. Firefighters pulled a male driver from the overturned vehicle. He was still restrained by a seatbelt, but was conscious, according to the Azusa Police Department.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - The California Highway Patrol is planning to hold a DUI/driver license checkpoint in the unincorporated area of Azusa Friday, May 3. The checkpoint will begin at 7:30 p.m. CHP officers trained in detecting DUI drivers will staff the checkpoint and will be armed with breathalyzers. Drivers should only be detained for a few moments when stopped by an officer, the CHP said. If traffic volume increases, every third or fifth vehicle will be stopped to maintain objectivity, the CHP said. |
